grey hawk

As we move through the halls, we notice that the cosmetic damage we caused has been repaired but traps and treasure have not been reset despite the time that has passed. The clean areas are building up dirt and debris, which is also unusual. As we get close to Gouger’s lair, we begin to exude odd smells, and then begin to speak as internet cats. This passes as we get through the magically warped rooms. All evidence of the troll’s habitation has been removed from his room. We go down the trapdoor to the tunnel below and we each burst into green magical non-damaging flames. Pike checks the brass door and finds no traps while Gonoan listens at it and hears what sounds like bone scraping on stone. We open the doors and see several large skeletal 2-headed humanoids armed with morningstars. Beltin spits acid at them and they attack him and Gonoan. They score one hit on Gonoan who charges and hits one. Obregon shoots one 4 times but it doesn’t do full damage. Sanna hits it with 2 scorching rays and it explodes into bone splinters. Beltin steps up and smacks one twice. They attempt to hit us and do manage to hit Gonoan again. They then each pull out a second Morningstar. Gonoan hits his twice with his axe and Obregon breaks up 4 more arrows in its bony backside. Bone shards are filling the air. Sanna destroys one with a scorching ray and burns the other. The remaining one hits Beltin but falls to a massive hit from Gonoan. Their morningstars are old and rusty and they also have a javelin but nothing of value. We search the room and besides the impaled corpses of large humanoids, we don’t find anything of interest. Nat identifies the bodies as dungeon dwellers such as trogolodytes, ogres. Sanna casts light on a bone and drops it down the grate. It seems to bounce off something but disappears from view within a couple of feet indicating some sort of magical darkness. Rather than force the grate we decide to head back to the Blackstone crypt and go down through the chasm there. We turn the pillars and re-open the chasm doors. Gonoan looks in and sees it goes about 70’ down and is cavernous but doesn’t look naturally carved. Beltin spider climbs down to the closest opening and looks in. He sees a passage heading away. He keeps moving around checking openings until it is obvious that none of them are more interesting than the others. He reports this to the others and we all climb down and begin exploring. Most of the tunnels just loop back to the chasm but we eventually find a larger area leading in different directions. We can feel dampness from one direction and head that way. This ends at a fast flowing river full of giant pikes. The other side appears to be caved in and scorched. Walking along the river in either direction would be hazardous so we head back and go a different direction. We come into a low tunnel and find a ladder going up. Beltin spider climbs up the ladder well and finds it dead ends. He searches but finds no exit. We send Pike up to look around and he finds a secret door. It has no traps and he discovers the mechanism to operate it and opens it quietly. We let the others know to come up and Beltin enters this low passageway. After about 20’, it turns to the right. It goes another 15’ or so and stops. Pike moves up and searches the area, finding a secret trap door in the ceiling. It is not trapped and he hears nothing behind it. He opens this one and it opens into an old chapel. To the right is passage with an empty dais on either side of it. There is the stump of a large statue in the center as well and an ancient altar composed of old red bones on one wall. Beltin climbs in and spots a black blob with decayed body parts in it some of which appear to be trying to escape. There are also 3 minotaur zombies down another passage. The blob advances on Beltin and slams him. Beltin then breathes acid on the zombies. Gonoan pops up and hits the blob. The lead minotaur attacks Beltin with a great axe and causes him some damage. Sanna joins us and throws up a wall of electricity between Beltin and the zombies. Obregon comes up and tries to shoot the blob but misses. The blob sends negative energy into the lead zombie and moves down another hall. Beltin and Gonoan manage to get hits in on it as it goes. Gonoan then follows it and finishes it off. The minotaurs move back away from the lightning wall, in to what appears to be another room. Sanna lets the wall drop and throws a lightning bolt down the hall at them. Obregon follows that up with 4 arrows in to the lead one. Beltin moves down the trapdoor and asks Nat for healing. Gonoan charges the next one and hews it down. The next one in line charges and hits Gonoan. Sanna kills that one with scorching ray. Nat uses the healing belt on Beltin. Gonoan charges the last and gets hit in return. Sanna finishes it off with magic missiles. Will we discover any treasure?

As we move around town selling goods and buying new stuff, there are notices announcing a 6000 gp bounty on Laurus Racknian’s head. We also hear that in order to eliminate any remaining wights in the sewers, the city has added additional gelatinous cubes to patrol down there. Pike pokes around and finds that nothing is working as normal in town due to 3000 people being dead. The city staff is spread thin, basic services are slowed and looting is rampant. He has trouble locating his thieves’ guild contacts and tries to make contact through the beggar’s guild. Adventurers are running around looking for Racknian, a lot of them heading into the Greyhawk ruins. Pike heads into the thieves guild building in an attempt to check in since he can’t find his contacts. They are not very interested and let him know that Ratic is out of town. He leaves a message and goes on. Sanna goes to the wizards guild library to research the dragon egg. She learns that it is a black dragon egg but does not find out any more information. Beltin learns from his lady friend that business has been slow due to a lack of people coming in to town. The merchant and middle classes were hurt harder by the events in the arena. Sanna hears some information about the arena, that the worm was under the black dome below the grounds with some forgotten access points. None of Racknians guards or workers knew about his plans. Also, Zagyg apparently built some of that area with things that are for the future as if he knew some things that would happen later. We head out of town, through the main gate then past the refugee camps. We cross Zagyg’s bridge and down the trail, through the woods to the ruins we ago. We toss some coins to the beggars around the bridge. We arrive at the ruins and notice there is nothing going on at Zagig’s tower, there is a rumor that some magical force is preventing anyone from accessing the tower of magic. Sanna decides to head over to the tower of magic to inspect this “barrier”. Nat and Obregon accompany her. Obregon sees kobold tracks and notices evidence of kobolds around the base of the tower of magic. Sanna and Nat approach with open arms raised “we come in peace, just wanted to inspect the towers barrier” They appear to be neutral at the sight of Nat. They claim to have taken over the tower, the elves who had been here were destroyed by a demon. Now there are fanatic Zagyg followers inhabiting the tower. The party is reunited and heads to the war tower. Grebuld the dwarf greets us and Stygar comes out to say hello. They are pleased to see us return and notice that we have gained much since our last visit. After we enter the main hall, the wagon pulled by the skeletal horses and driven by a howling specter begins to move toward us. There are also 2 sword wraiths on skeletal horses on both sides of the room. Gonoan moves up a little bit and prepares to receive a charge, Sanna moves to the side with Nat, Pike readies an attack in case they attack us, Obregon does the same, Beltin moves up next to Gonoan and activates his acid aura. The wagon charges Gonoan and Beltin. Sanna and Obregon kill the first horse. Gonoan accepts the hit and hits back. Beltin dodges and takes a glancing blow. The second horse disintegrates after dealing with Beltin’s acid aura. Now the sword wraiths dismount and move adjacent to Gonoan and Beltin. Gonoan takes a chunk out of one while Sanna hits them both with a lightning bolt, destroying one of them. The driver leaves the wagon and flies at Sanna attacking her but missing. Natauru manages to turn the driver, Pike hits the sword wraith and Obregon finishes it off. He then hits the spectral driver with 2 arrows. Beltin attempts to hit it with acid but fails to penetrate its incorporealness. Gonoan charges it and misses as well. Sanna swings at it with shocking grasp to no avail. It flees through the wall. We find this encounter to be disconcerting as we have been through this room many times without issue and never before have the sword wraiths attacked without provocation. Sanna loots the sword wraiths and finds breastplates, long swords, heavy steel shields, torcs(200gp) and heavy crossbows with bolts. We begin moving through the tower towards the former lair of Gouger. What other surprises lay in our path?

We return to the keep and have our wounds tended to. They have a new captain, Zorgon. Marzina asks for our tale. We notice she has an new owl familiar, Ahiloor. We go up to the 2nd floor and settle in. We relate our encounter with the dragon, leaving out the parts about the lizard folk disappearances. We spend the night and head back to Lower Eery the next day. Beltin leads us back to his family home where his mother comes out to greet us. She says he is looking pretty good and what was his father not telling her. Beltin tells her that we had an encounter with Illthain but she chose not to kill us. She is going to send for his father and make dinner. We visit with some of the towns folk who stop by as well as Beltin’s friends. Sanna relates our tale of facing the dragon with much embellishment which Beltin’s friends eat up, drooling over her “charms”. Parlax returns and goes to wash up before dinner. After dinner, he meets with us and says that Beltin should talk with Axon himself in person. The group wants to go with but Parlax warns that they should not show up empty handed. We should bring his favorite meal, a giant scorpion. We relate the entire adventure for Beltin’s dad. The next day, we stock up on anti-toxin and head into the hills. Obregon attempts to track down a giant scorpion. We run across a pack of 3 and move in to engage. Sanna and Obregon hit one with ranged attacks but it is not quite dead. Gonoan and Beltin move towards another and Beltin breathes acid on it. One of the scorpions charges Gonoan and misses but Beltin gets in a hit as it goes by. Another charges Beltin but misses. The third charges Gonoan as well and hits him for a little damage. Sanna hits both damaged scorpions with scorching rays and toasts them. Gonoan charges the last one, taking a hit in the process, and hits it. Beltin, Pike, and Obregon finish it off. We drag one of the carcasses with us and begin climbing. We come across 210gp in coins, and a scroll of heroism(5th lvl caster), 700gp statuette, 6000 gp tapestry, 1200gp vase, 1000gp painting. We reach Axon after a long morning of climbing. He is courteous and says he is proud of Beltin’s adventuring. He asks for the story and we tell him everything. He did not want to battle Illthain but Beltin counters that we didn’t either but she was waiting for us. Axon agrees with Nat that it was most likely a trap. He is troubled about the egg and reveals that Illthain has a brood in Ahlissa. The egg will likely be found by Illthain unless she doesn’t care. If no one brings it out, it may interrupt her plans. No way to tell. We are asked what we believe is going on. We let him know our concerns about Bronwins boyfriend. Axon tells us that we need to learn what the connections are. We talk about balance of power, in accordance with Bronwins boyfriend, the dungeon master and tiamat. Axon feels that Illthain is trying to recreate the lizard king of old and to unite all of the lizard folk in some nefarious scheme. We suspect that Illthain has allowed rumors of the male dragon to spread to prevent people from going into the ruins in the swamp as she searches for the mystery magic item. Do we feel that Bronwin’s lover is a danger? Is Bronwin being manipulated or manipulating him? We are told to find understanding of the power players around the area and always be looking for allies. Now it is his dinner time and we decline the option to share in it. He is concerned that Greyhawk is on the precipice of turning into a necropolis. The ruins seem to be infested with large amounts of clerics of different evil gods which are capable of creating a lot of undead. As we feel this seems to be his greatest concern, we decide to head towards Greyhawk. Sanna mentions that she would like to return to her hometown of Hardby at some point to visit with her father but feels that dealing with Iuz and the greyhawk ruins is more pressing. Axon has left by this point and we return down the hills. After going through Lower Eery, we head towards Greyhawk. When we arrive, we notice there is light traffic leaving the city but almost no traffic going towards. The gate is very crowded as apparently some of the other gates are closed and there are a lot of guards checking people in. The security scrutiny is thorough and martial law is still in effect. They are generally confident that they have gotten most of the undead rooted out but are still worried. We arrive during Brewfest and find the celebrations are muted. After returning home, we head out to sell our loot. It costs us 330gp to identify the magical items. Beltin and Pike use their charm to get us better deals and we get 100% of the tapestry, 90% of the statuette, 105% of the painting, 80% of the vase, and 90%of the ring, 5139 gp total for each of us! How will we spend it?

Beltin and Gonoan suffer some more effects from the dragon’s acid vapors, growing weaker. Hishka cures a little bit for Gonoan and heals Beltin of some of his wounds. She then heads off to try and protect her people’s eggs. She calls for other lizards to come with her. Pike decides he is going to help and chases after her. Obregon, Sanna and Nat go along as well. Beltin and Gonoan stay behind as they don’t feel up to another battle. Hishka casts water breathing on Pike to help him swim across an underwater area. She also warns them not to go into areas without her as there are traps along the way that she will need to undo. She will not be surprised if her people flee the dragons fear aura if Illthain appears. Everyone makes it through the water and comes out in a tunnel, 15’ wide. It opens up into a chamber with a small stone barricade coming partway into the room. The back half of the chamber is covered with eggs and guarded by 8 kobolds. There is also a Halfling size black egg and 3 chests near the back. In the north corner, is another chest. Hishka moves forward and attempts to bargain for the eggs. The kobolds threaten to turn us into porcupines if we keep going. Hishka keeps talking, attempting to win them over. Pike begins moving around the outer edge of the wall, sneaking all the way. Sanna moves up to the front by Hishka. All of a sudden, the kobolds spot Pike and several of them turn and shoot at him. Obregon takes one down and the kobolds all miss. Sanna casts light on her short spear while Natauru tries to keep everyone from killing the kobolds “They are just doing what kobolds do”. They demand that Pike returns to the group or they will shoot him. He moves back a bit. Nat moves up to the front and tries to reason with the other kobolds. Sanna asks Nat if he would allow her to cast stink cloud to drive them away. The kobolds yell “stop talking” and Nat reluctantly gives Sanna the go ahead and she casts the spell. The kobolds begin retching and hurling. Nat moves around the barricade yelling at them to run away. Pike moves toward the black egg. They do begin to leave, calling for Illthain. Everyone gathers eggs and the lizard folk, except Hishka, move back towards their lair with them. After the kobolds have gone, Pike moves to the chests while Sanna goes to stand over the dragon egg. Sanna notices a waterproof chest in the water nearby. Pike opens the first chest and finds provisions, likely for the kobolds. The second contains more provisions like the first as does the third. Obregon realizes he should watch the water on the far side of the chamber for signs of the dragon approaching. Pike checks the chest in the water and finds thousands of coins, 6 dark glass vials(Mbulls strengthx2,cure seriousx2,invisibility, haste), and a ring(M,minor spell storing). He takes the ring and vials and then off to the last chest. It is unlocked and has 4 dark glass vials(M,cure light wounds) within its shadowy interior. He takes those and returns to the submerged chest and gathers up 21 platinum, and 200 gold. Obregon and Sanna both grab a couple hundred gold pieces each. The lizard folk return and begin gathering more eggs. Nat emerges from the water and says that Illthain is on the other side of the waterway and not moving towards us. She is congratulating the kobolds on a job well done which makes him believe this is a trap. We begin moving away with whatever we can carry. The lizards are taking the eggs while Sanna and Obregon take the dragon egg(M,necromancy). Obregon, Sanna, Nat and Pike return to where Beltin and Gonoan are waiting. All of the subsequent adventures are related. We decide to wait a bit. After the lizard folk make a couple of trips, they fail to return. Natuaru goes back to check and see what happened to them. He returns 45 minutes later after seeing only acid everywhere but no sign of the lizard folks. The remaining lizards have hidden the eggs that were brought back and are now preparing to flee. We decide to hunker down and spend the night. Natauru treats Beltin and Gonoan, helping them regain a little bit of their strength. The next morning, Nat prays for lesser restoration spells and heals some more of the strength damage taken by Gonoan and Beltin. We leave and head back towards Blackwall Keep. It is the 21st of Harvester and the weather is warm and slightly drizzly. We notice an area covered in webs and 4 man sized spiders come after us. Gonoan charges one and kills it, Obregon kills 2 others and Sanna finishes the last one. When we stop, we begin discussing what to do with the dragon egg. Pike wants to leave it as obviously it is not Illthain’s and she wanted us to have it. Sanna wants to take it and try to determine whose it is and then make them an ally against Illthain. Beltin suggests burying it so we know where it is but don’t have to take it into the keep. We decide to bury the dragon egg where Obregon can find it again. We make it the rest of the way back without any other encounters of signifigance. Fade out…

Pike moves into the entrance. Beltin tosses a potion to Gonoan and yells at him to drink it. He drinks it and grows to large size. The dragon’s presence causes Obregon and Hishka to pause and be afraid. Illthain lands across from the entrance to the lair. Sanna casts sleet storm at the dragon, blocking it’s view. Obregon attempts to shoot it but misses. Hishka ducks inside. Pike retreats further inside into an alcove containing some crude weapons and ceremonial items. Beltin drinks a potion and becomes large as well. The dragon flies out of the storm; Beltin and Gonoan both attempt to hit as it passes but fail. She lands on top of the lair. Sanna attempts to hit it with soundlance but Illthain resists it. Pike moves further in to another room. It smells and is covered with bird crap; there are 3 harpies staring him down. Beltin and Gonoan try to hit it, missing once again. Illthain says ”Axon’s welp, I want you to live and return to tell of my might.” Then she breathes acid on Gonoan doing a little bit of damage but the fumes do weaken him. Sanna tries to hit her with another soundlance but it fizzles again. Hishka runs further in but the opposite direction that Pike took. The harpies attempt to charm Pike but he shakes it off. Beltin actually gets a hit on the dragon for a little bit of damage. Then Gonoan gets a hit in as well. The dragon moves back and casts mage armor on itself. Sanna attempts a lightning ball which doesn’t get through. Obregon moves outside and tries to shoot Illthain but misses. The harpies move down the hall in the same direction as Pike. Hishka yells back at the harpies to return to their lair as we are allowed to be here. Pike asks the harpies to show him their secret exit. One offers to fly him out and he accepts. She leaves him just below the roof. Beltin and Gonoan drink bull’s strength potions. Illthain wonders aloud about what we drank and flies away. Sanna asks Beltin what happened and he tells her that he thinks we scared her away. Pike climbs on to the roof and sees that Illthain is circling around. Beltin climbs on top of the lair and gives Gonoan a lesser restoration potion, who drinks it. Illthain flies back around from the side. Sanna’s next spell fails to penetrate her spell resistance. Obregon manages to hit her with an arrow but it doesn’t get through her scales. Hishka moves closer and offers to help if we are managing to damage the dragon. Beltin approaches and tries to hit her but fails although Gonoan charges and smacks it hard. She flies around in a circle, avoiding extra swings by Beltin and Gonoan. She lands looking at the tunnel mouth. Sanna still can’t break through her resistances but retreats back into the lair out of the dragon’s line of sight. Obregon hits it with an arrow but not very deeply. He retreats further in as well. Illthain spits acid at Beltin and Gonoan hurting them both as well as weakening them. She is surprised that it hurts Beltin, she doesn’t want to hurt him. She wants him to survive long enough to return to tell Axon about what happened here. Sanna strikes out again and Nat tells him that Beltin and Gonoan won’t survive many more of those acid blasts. Obregon hits him with another arrow causing a little bit of pain. Hishka asks if we need her help and that the dragon is just toying with us. Illthain responds by saying that she doesn’t want to hurt the lizard eggs but if Hishka is helping us, she is working against her. Beltin charges and hits her. Gonoan charges but misses. Illthain goes full round on Gonoan and hits with everything but her bite. He falls. She moves right up to Beltin and says, it’s down to you now. Sanna tells Nat to go help Gonoan and misfires another spell. Obregon misses with another couple of arrows. Hishka confronts Illthain and demands that she not do this. Ilthain responds that a couple of weeks ago you would have fed them to the harpies. Hishka says “they are worth it, they are different. At least let me heal him, he is dying”. Pike shoots a crossbow bolt at the dragon but misses. Beltin touches Gonoan and heals him. This angers Illthain who tail slaps him. Gonoan crawls away and Illthain flies off. We pause to lick our wounds. What will our intrepid heroes do now?

The next morning, as we prepare to leave after a good breakfast, we notice Valkus Dun of Hieroneous has joined our party with 20 of his warriors . He introduces Jieran Wierus, the Cuthbertine prophet who will also accompany us. Jieran stops some flagellants who are following him and assures them he will share with them upon his return but for now must leave on important business. Bronwin and Adriana show up and give greetings to all. Valkus is barely able to keep a smile when looking at her but is civil. She asks to speak with us privately and he moves away. She says, “I have a couple of things for you but not much. Here are a couple of potions of resist energy, acid. I have sold a few of them in town and if you need more in the future let me know.” She also gives us a scroll of teleport and a ring of spell storing with 3 mage armors on it. Pike is listening to Valkus and Jieran talk and they are sizing up the figures on the hill (Bronwin’s cronies) and thinks something is strange. They don’t know why Balabar Smenk is interested in them. Adriana approaches Sanna and tells her to take care of herself as her love is the one who wore Sanna’s body. She is worried about her and is afraid without Sanna’s body she won’t be able to make contact again. Sanna tells the others about 50% of the story concerning Bronwin. We head out, with the guards formed up around the party. On the journey, a giant constrictor snake attacks but is dispatched easily by Valkus. He then cuts it up and has it transported to the keep as an additional meat source. We arrive at the keep on the 14th of Harvester during Loggers Fest. The towns we passed along the way were extra full of people in to celebrate. The keep has been repaired and the guards are doing their regular watches. They do not appear to be expecting us but cheer when they see us. We prepare to enter but Nat doesn’t want to go in. He has somehow been maintaining his gnome disguise the whole trip. Sanna stays out with him. Inside, we begin discussing the particulars. Marzina is present as well and is fully healed. We decide the old battlefield between here and the swamp would be a neutral location to meet with the lizard folk. We discuss matching number of warriors between humans and lizards and that we will be the go betweens. They are to expect us to return within 5 days and we will send word when we are arriving. We head out the next morning with Obregon leading us. That day, we see 5 ghouls approaching from the southwest and making a beeline for us. Sanna says she is sitting this one out to save her magic and to allow the rest of us to gain more experience. Obregon kills one while Beltin and Gonoan move up. Nat moves up a bit and attempts to turn them when they move forward. He succeeds in destroying the remaining 4. We find a dry spot to spend the night. During the dog watch, Sanna hears a couple of large creatures moving through the swamp in our directon. She quickly awakens the rest of the group. Obregon resists waking up due to an obviously arousing dream. We can hear the somethings moving toward us. Sanna kicks Obregon awake. Gonoan moves toward the noise. The rest of the party moves up to stand with him. All of a sudden, 2 huge crocodiles appear out of the mist. One attacks Gonoan and bites him badly. Gonoan does manage to hit it back and prevent it from swallowing him. Beltin spits acid at the one next to him. Sanna casts a storm on the one attacking Gonoan and it does a good bit of damage. Natauru casts bless on the group. Gonoan rages and attacks, killing his foe. Obregon shoots a couple of arrows at the one next to Beltin but misses. Pike hits it with a crossbow bolt. The remaining one attempts to bite Beltin and misses but hits him with its tail. Beltin hits it with acid breath again. Sanna moves up and casts sound lance at it doing a good bit of damage. Finally, Gonoan steps up and cuts it up. Gonoan takes a tooth and Pike makes himself a necklace of teeth. The next morning, we head out and arrive at the lizard folk habitat around late morning. We see the 2 sentries, one of whom runs inside while the other backs towards the entrance. Shortly thereafter, Hishka comes out with some of the other females and greets us in a friendly manner. We are invited inside. We sit with her in a fairly good size antechamber and are served water we are assured has been cleansed. We relate to her what we have arranged. Hishka tells us that Illthain is back in her lair and has Kushack guarding her. She is afraid to try and leave with any of her people because the dragon will attack them. Hishka is willing to try and go with us. We guarantee her safety there and back. She suggests leaving quickly before the dragon learns of our presence. The dragon has possession of the clan’s eggs. We decide to go and she quickly gathers her belongings including Marzina’s possessions. She also brings some potion bottles from Illthain that she is going to destroy on the way. We head to our campsite from the night before. Along the way, we run into 5 more ghouls and a ghast. Obregon takes out the ghast with arrows and Sanna hits the rest with an electric ball that destroys them. We spend the night uneventfully. The next morning we head back to the meeting spot. On the way, we see what appears to be a black dragon fly over us. It doesn’t appear to notice us. We kill some normal crocodiles as we go. We get to the meet spot and decide with Hishka’s blessing to go on to the Keep. We arrive at the keep and they report sighting the dragon as well. We all meet Stintrim, Valkus and Jieran to complete the paperwork. Marzina captures the moment in art. Our group is asked to sign it as well. Marzina is surprised and pleased to receive her gear back. She has fond memories of the help Hishka gave her while she was captured. Stimtrin is prepared to leave for Diamond Lake immediately after the signing is complete and Marzina chooses to accompany him to confer with Allistan. We escort Hishka back the next morning. As we travel, we see a group of lizard folk not of the Twisted Branch tribe. They look hostile but do not move to attack so we pass them by. Hishka verifies that they are hostile to outsiders and jealous of the Twisted Branch’s protection from Illthain. We camp uneventfully and make the lizard habitat around late morning. Pike and Gonoan spot Illthain hiding around the other side of the habitat. We begin preparing resist energy spells. Nat says we should find cover to hamper the dragons flight. We move towards the hillock and the dragon takes flight. We prepare to do battle and Illthain shoots acid behind us but doesn’t hit us. She says “The great-great-great-great grand welp of Axonfiliacasta has finally arrived. Welcome.” Sanna readies her lightning ball and Obregon casts Hunter’s Mercy. Nat casts bless. Hishka cries, follow me and leads the way into the habitat. How will this play out?

The next morning, Gonoan heads towards the Griffon’s Nest to await word of our caravan. He notices a lot of people out and the guard is requesting people stay indoors until they are ready to leave the city. The tavern is very busy due to the chaos and the games ending. After a while, a young man comes in, looks around and approaches Gonoan. He asks “Are you Mr. Nowhere?” He says he is a representative of the merchant that is expecting to travel us. They arrange a time and the young man leaves but not without a vigourous dwarf pat on the back as a thank you. As Gonoan prepares to leave, he hears people talking about the events of the previous day as a possible act of war. After he arrives at the house, we make our final preparations. Natauru is packing up and we notice that he has more things then he used to. He is concerned that we want to explore the ruins in the swamp and are not prepared to fight the dragon. We reassure him that we do not intend to confront the dragon. As we finish getting ready, Nat sets up traps around the house. We arrive at the Griffon’s Nest at the appointed time and meet the dwarven merchant, Stimtrin Cannasay. He tells us that he does not have a carriage due to them all being rented out with all of the overflow of people fleeing the city. There are 4 guards accompanying him. He wants to go to Diamond Lake first to speak with the Church of St Cuthbert and fill them in on what happened here. It takes quite a bit of time to exit the city as most of the gates are closed and people are being inspected closely. We are not harassed being with Stimtrin. There is a lot of traffic on the road leading away from the city. We notice a few commoners/farmers with battle gear heading in to the city, likely a militia group that has been called in. The weather is moderate, cloudy and warm. We travel for several days and notice that Stimtrin is kind of grumpy and taciturn. He likes to stop frequently, we suspect, because he is not used to riding. We arrive at Diamond Lake after 3 days on Godsday in the month of Harvester. We stay at the Able Carter Coaching Inn. After freshening up, we head towards the Emporium to seek Adriana. It turns out to be a large building that encompasses multiple vices for hire. We approach the front desk and are directed upstairs to the Veiled Corridor. We pay the entry fee and proceed, though Gonoan stays downstairs. An important looking woman approaches and assumes we may be new clients. We let her know we want to see Adriana, that she wanted us to visit her if we made it to town. She seems a little thrown but asks us to wait. As we make ourselves comfortable, we notice a man with a white lion head with a gorgeous woman on either side of him. He appears to be regaling them with fascinating stories. He approaches us and introduces himself as Shag Solomon. He buys us a drink and notes that we are new in town. He seems to think that we are not what Adriana would choose. He asks our names and offers to find out if Adriana has time for us. He returns a few moments later with an exotic looking woman on his arm. She comments about the smokiness and looks at us closely. She says to Sanna “Hey, how are you honey, you didn’t respond to my messages. Someone did but I’m not sure who” Sanna embraces her. She claims to know us but can’t really remember our names. She sits with us and tells Sanna that she likes how she looks on this world and touches her hair. She asks how our adventure went and Beltin asks which one? “Didn’t you go fight Tiamat?” “Not lately”. “Did you give up? Did they make you forget everything? I’ll be right back” and she walks away. When she returns, she says she needs to talk to her cousin to figure out what she is forgetting. She asks if we are going to be around but we tell her we leave in the morning. She says she will be back in a little while. Obregon asks Shag’s advice on who to have take care of him and is told he should try elsewhere as this establishment is probably too much for him. Sanna pulls out money and asks to be treated well. Shag leads her back to a room with a couple of women to give her a makeover. They have her armor cleaned and begin putting things together for her. Meanwhile, Gonoan see some Courtesans passing by. 3 ladies come by and look us over. Obregon asks which one is going to take him off and bathe him. They pretend to fight over it but he requests a red head. One of them goes to find one. A red head approaches and takes Obregon away. Beltin, Pike and Gonoan return to the inn. As they pass the feral dog, there is a white orc on the porch who growls at Gonoan who promptly spits at its feet. It snarls “That almost hit me” but Gonoan just walks away. Sanna gets her makeover (hair, makeup, new clothes) and Obregon enjoys his dalliance. After some time, Adriana returns and seems disappointed by Sanna’s new look. She invites Sanna to accompany her somewhere to talk to Bronwin. Obregon and Sanna exchange a look of dismay as they recognize the name of the witch from Dyver’s. Obregon runs back to the inn and gathers the rest of the group to join in. We return to the Emporium and meet up with Sanna. Shag wants to know if something is amiss with Sanna who demurs. Adriana leads us to the old observatory and we talk with her as we walk along. We learn that she met us at the World Serpent Inn when we were waiting for a portal. We had been equipped to fight a chine which is like a golem and we apparently did well. The observatory appears ahead of us on a bluff. It is crumbling and uninhabited looking. There are lights flickering in the windows of the third floor. She warns us to wait and she will be right back. Nat advises us to wait as well as he has had a vision. He warns that the Eater of days is here. He doesn’t know what that means though. Sanna scans with detect magic and picks up nothing. We move closer to the building until the detect magic can scan the walls but still we get nothing. We notice lights coming on in the second floor now. Adriana sticks her head out a window and says she will be right back. She returns and tells us that Bronwin doesn’t like anyone to step on the grass but to follow her around. We do and Bronwin recognizes us. She asks if we are still angry as she does not want to fight. We tell her, sarcastically, that we are not mad at all! She wants to bring us up magically one at a time but we decline. She warns that we will think poorly of her if we come through the front door. We assure her that we have already judged her. She sends us to the front. We go up the stairs and through the huge double wooden doors with a maniacal face on them. Nat thinks it has something to do with the moon. The first room is filled with detritus with overturned tables forming a crude barricade on one side. There are a few skeletons in this room with crossbows taking cover behind the tables. Bronwin tells us to wait for her to come get us as it would be safer. She greets us and says it is nice to see us. Sanna says it is surprising to see her as the last time we saw her she had an arrow in her head. She says her boyfriend healed her and us, and that we should be grateful he did. He turns out to be the wizard who was holding us in the ruins. We pass some open rooms, one of which has a human woman who closes her door and another with a warrior who asks if there is going to be trouble. Bronwin tells him it will be okay. She leads us to another room that stinks of decay. There is a large table whose chairs are filled with humanoid figures that are obviously dead. Fresh food is in front of the bodies. Bronwin says to pay no attention as she did not do it, it is a leftover from the previous necromancer who resided here. Sanna detects necromancy and illusion. We move on up some stairs to the second floor which is an enormous bedchamber. A small bandage wrapped and bespectacled humanoid with fine clothes holds a silver platter with a human womans severed head. There is an angel statue with Filge on the base in one corner. She leads us up again to the upper floor which was obviously where a large telescope would have once been. Bronwin begins explaining but Sanna stops her and asks if Gonoan can punch her. She declines and offers to tell us everything that she is allowed to. She claims to not have wanted to kill us, she just wanted to get away. She didn’t mean for the puppets to steal things. Adriana is confused as we do not seem to be the people she met in the world serpent inn. Bronwins boyfriend decided to use our bodies to rent to others. He allowed us to escape so we could become more powerful and would be able to host stronger entities. She wants to know if we will allow them to continue using our bodies when we gain more experience. Unanimously, we decline. She tells us that with the magical grass outside, she ate our memories. Sanna supports her pursuit of knowledge and magic but wanted to be asked. She used us to help the dead settle their incomplete tasks. Her boyfriend had been watching us since we were on our way to Dyver’s. He picked us out back then. We interrupted his plans in the ruins because he was not ready for things to go the way they did. Adriana admits to contacting us and that is how we ended up here. She thought we were the people she knew at the world serpent inn. She is a barbarian but too weak to fight Bronwin and their parents wouldn’t want them to fight anyway. She is angry though. Bronwin says her boyfriend is very powerful and once changed a wizard in to a dinosaur that was consequently put in the games and killed. She says she believes the events in Greyhawk have something to do with what she is doing here. It may be part of a larger conspiracy of evil. She is worried about what happens here while her boyfriend is looking after the other planes. She offers 3 options: Fight the chines, help deal with tiamat or the greyhawk ruins. We have not been going to the ruins and they don’t want to push us there but we would develop the skills we need there. The swamp ruins could also be of help but the dragon is very powerful and will likely kill us. The rumor is that there is a ring with a wish on it in those ruins. That is what the dragon is looking for. Her boyfriend is allowing us to live so he can harvest us when we are powerful enough. Bronwin doesn’t need us to do anything for her. She wants us to make ourselves more powerful so we can help down the road. Tiamat has dominated other worlds and there is one called the dungeon master who is also fighting her and fighting the boyfriend. It is all about control but the claim is that the boyfriend is a lesser evil. There are 2 dragons in the swamp but we should fight the female before the male. There is a trap around the females lair. The female is Illthain and she hates Allistan of Diamond Lake. She offers to give us some things to help defeat the dragon but we want to head back to the Inn. She says she will come by early in the morning. Will she show up and will we accept her help?

Pike moves to the wall and jumps to the arena floor and begins to move towards the exit. Sanna casts sleet storm to cover Pike’s escape. The rest of us begin to move away. We hear Racknian telling his guards “don’t pursue or take offensive actions, we can find him. Find out who the spellcaster in that group is, they will be arrested”. Pike continues to run and we head out. We manage to escape the arena without difficulty. Pike moves to the thieves guild safe house in a roundabout manner. The rest of the group take a circuitous route home. Pike finds Ratic at the house with a few others and Pike tells him about our fears concerning Racknian trying to kill Auric and Kellek. Ratic asks if Pike is being chased and Pike says yes, by Racknian’s people. Ratic sends the rest off and takes Pike down into a cellar and into the sewers. They pause under a man hole, throw up a rope and have Pike climb up after making sure it’s clear. They come out still in the River Quarter but in a different part. Then Pike is told to go on his own. Pike joins us at the house. We hunker down for the night and keep watch for anyone coming after Pike or Sanna. We decide to abandon the search for the monster. The next evening, a man comes to the door and leaves a note for Sanna. It says that she used magic and they want to know what happened. No one is pressing charges and there is no contact information in the note. A couple of days later, Eritae summons us for a meeting. Beltin, Obregon and Pike go in for the meeting while Gonoan and Sanna wait in the courtyard. Eritae is impressed with our heroics at Blackwall Keep and relieved that it was not obviously connected with Greyhawk ruins. She is intending to go with us to the keep, accompanied by a dwarven merchant who is a member of the oligarchy as well. They are also bringing some guards and under priests. They will be representing Greyhawk in creating a treaty with the lizard folk. We will leave in a few days. The next morning, Sanna goes to check in with the mage’s guild. Fills them in on where we are going and shows them the note she received. They say it wasn’t from them. Beltin and Obregon go to the cartographers guild in search of a map of Eeyor. We purchase 2 maps, one of the general area and one of landmarks around Eeyor. We gather back at home for lunch. Beltin goes out for his appointment at the brothel and notices guards, wagons, clerics, adventurers and mages heading towards the arena. He continues on towards the brothel and takes care of business. On the way back, he overhears that there are a ton of undead coming out of the arena. He rushes home and tells the others. We all head towards the arena. There is a line of clerics holding back a horde of wights and the ground is shaking indicative of something huge in the arena. We see Eritae and ask her where we can help. Before we can get an assignment, Gonoan pushes through the clerics, sees the wights, and stops. All of a sudden, 4 wights break through near Gonoan. He steps back through the clerics. Sanna casts a lightning ball and destroys them. We watch for anymore esaping undead while Pike breaks into the storage locker for his crossbow. Eventually, some powerful mages and clerics slay the monster which turns out to be an undead worm and the rest of the undead are taken care of. Apparently, Auric and Kellek were waiting with 3 flesh golems when this monster came out of the ground. Racknian points Auric and Kellek out to the monster. Auric attacks it and does some damage. Then the monster swallows Auric, who is still alive and fighting in its gut. A bunch of spirits rise up and through a burst of necromantic energy, drain levels from the spectators. Those who died, rise as wights. Racknian cries out in triumphant pain as the powers turn him into a death knight. He summons a nightmare and flees. Those who could, began fighting the monster and undead. The alarm goes out through the city. Eritae says that this is the worst devastation the city has faced. She apologizes but will not be able to leave with us the next day. She wants us to go on with the dwarf and finalize the treaty without her. We head back home to prepare for our departure.

We approach the animal pens and pass a spiral staircase that goes down. There are 3 pens on each side of the hallway and we hear a feline growl as well as a porcine grunt. As we enter the row, a pair of leopards begin to roar loudly. We hear a voice muttering at the other end, wondering about the noise. A set of laborers appears and warns of losing body parts if we attempt to mess with the locks. We see 2 leopards, a lion and 3 boars but see nothing else of interest in the cages. The workers are waiting impatiently but don’t say anything else. A couple of guards come up behind them and tell them to get back to work and ask if we are supposed to be in the coenoby? Beltin bluffs and says we got turned around and asks how to get back. They direct us to any staircase and we move to the spiral stairs. Pike tries to signal that he is going to stay put but is seen by one of the guards. They approach and ask if he belongs to us. Pike responds that he belongs to no one. Beltin asks what he is doing and the guards push him toward us. He makes disparaging remarks and laughs as he moves towards us. We move down the stairs. Meanwhile, Sanna is keeping an eye out for anything out of the ordinary and spots Akiira with his pals. She doesn’t approach but keeps watching him. The rest of the group ends up in a large hallway that leads to the Coenoby. Every 40-50 ft there is a spiral staircase going up. We wait a bit and then head back up, sending Pike down the hallway to check it out. He heads around the left side of the dome and sees a large irregular room with a living area and a small blue door. There are 4 guards in the room and Pike sneaks past them to the blue door and believes it is a bathroom. He moves back in to the hallway again and continues moving around. There are more cages opposite that hold prisoners due to be executed in the arena as well as 2 locked doors. He listens at one door and smells vinegar. He picks the lock and opens the door “quietly”. He cracks a sun rod and sees a small cellar filled with hundreds of glass bottles on shelves and smells strongly of vinegar. It appears to be a wine cellar. He searches and finds nothing. A vagabond looking prisoner begins making nonsense noises in one of the cells. Pike moves to the other door, picks the lock and opens the door. He sees a storage room with storage vases and flasks stored within. Pike leaves and returns to the party. We feel there must be a hidden floor in between this one and the next so he looks for a secret door on the staircase but finds none. He then heads to the workshop to see if any of the workers are with the thieves guild. The rest of us follow most of the way. He asks for help finding someone. One approaches and offers his help. Pike makes a rogue sign but no one picks up on it. We move back to the more populated areas with Pike leaving messages in thieves cant to meet him at the Griffons Nest with any information. Tiira arrives and Pike is surprised to see her. She asks what help he needs. He tells her he is hitting a dead end searching for the monster. He fills her in on what we have done so far. She tells him that she used to adventure with Auric and Kellek but they parted ways. She wants to talk to his superior about assigning him jobs that utilize his strengths. He insists that he can do the job but needs some advice on a next step. She advises him to search more or give up, but that he is not using all of his resources. We talk about approaching Racknian and attempting to get something from him. Pike approaches his box in the arena and a couple of guards move towards him. They try to stop him but Racknian says he is probably a fan and to let him through. Pike moves in and is offered an autograph but declines. He asks if he plans to kill Auric and Kellek on purpose or on accident? Racknian says they are fighting in the games and if they have to face the monster, they face the monster. They can probably kill whatever they come up against. Pike says there is a faction that wants Auric to die and one that wants them to live. Racknian questions whether Pike thinks he wants them dead but others want to stop him. Pike asks if he has chosen a monster deliberately to counter the abilities of Auric and Kellek. Racknian says to Pike that it sounds like he is being accused of trying to kill them but it is his job to put on a good show. But he should be turned over to the proper authorities for questioning before he can ruin the games and calls his guards to detain Pike. How will Pike react?

During the week, we come home to find a symbol on our window that Pike identifies as a summons to the safe house. He heads there and finds the old lady serving breakfast. Ratic is there and invites him to have breakfast. He tells Pike that the bosses have a job for him if he wants it. He should be able to do it while he is in town. The thieves guild is wanting to know what the big monster for the champion games will be. They have been unable to scry it or see it magically and it is probably not in the city yet. Pike is to find out what it is and everything he can about it. Meanwhile, Gonoan is at the Griffon’s nest each day drinking. He notices that the rooms are all occupied and there are a lot of extra people in the tavern. It turns out that there are fewer adventurers entering the Champions Game due to the mortality rate. The monsters keep getting harder and more people die so there is less interest. Nothing new is coming out of the ruins since everyone is caught up in the games. Crime is up and security has been increased. Pike returns with a request for help to find out about the Champions Game monster. Gonoan, Obregon and Beltin agree to help him. Apparently, prisoners have been disappearing from the prison and gladiators from the arena. We are trying to determine who might have the information we are looking for. We reach out to our contacts and learn that someone had to build the conveyance for the monster, and someone had to subdue it. Those someones are likely not residents of Greyhawk. These creatures seem to be created by worshipers of Zagyg who would be likely a subsect of Boccob. We go looking for the priests of Boccob we had met some months ago. They are at the Champions Games so we leave word for them to meet us at the Griffons Nest after they are done. We meet up and convince them to admit that they usually have some input into the creature chosen but were not approached this year. They don’t know who would have been involved but say Lawrus Racknian would know. They want to know when we are returning to the ruins but we tell them we have no plans to return any time soon and they leave. We learn about Talabir Welik the wizard referee who appears to be neutral, dedicated and follows the rules closely. He doesn’t appear to be approachable for any information. We decide to bluff him into believing that someone is attempting to kill the creature and then follow him to its location. He doesn’t seem to buy it but brings in security who feel we are wasting their time. But they send 2 men off and Pike follows them. They go into the arena building and down some stairs. There are other people moving around down here as well. They enter a room with a frieze on the wall and an elevator big enough to haul something huge. They continue through the room and up another set of stairs. There are a lot of shadowy areas, stairs and door ways. It seems they are headed towards Racknians palace. Pike follows them up the stairs and remains unnoticed. The guards knock and are allowed in after stating that they have news for Raknian. Back at the wizard’s guild, Sanna is researching the dragon, lizard king and swamp as well as trying to find information on who might be helping create the Game monster. The ruins are in the southern part of the swamp and the cartographers guild would be able to give a more detailed location for Eeyor, the name of the ruins. If Illthain is searching for a magical item, it must be powerful and useful to a dragon. The rest of the group is waiting for Pike to return and notices the 2 guards approach Racknian in his private box. He listens and then gives them a curt order and they leave. We also notice that more of the guards in the area seem to be paying extra attention to us. Sanna joins us as Pike gets back. We wait for the 2 guards to reappear and when they do, they seem to be heading back towards their original group or the barracks. Everyone but Sanna heads back to where Pike found the animal cages to see what we can see.
