grey hawk

She disappears, banished to her home plane. We find papers on the table which contain a letter to someone only referred to as the “general”. It assures them that the supplies are ¾ complete and the troops, 34 orcs, 43 goblins, 6 giants and the command support, stand ready. At the bottom, is a note that this does not include reinforcements. There are also supply lists. Pike checks the door and finds it unlocked and untrapped. It leads to a room being used for storage. These are finer items than we have seen previously. Barrels of ale, bottles of brandy, etc; all from different cities. There is a hallway heading off the other side. Gonoan and Beltin move to the hallway and see it turns to the left into a long dank room with 2 cells along the right side. The second cell contains a human male in rags but wearing an ornate robe. A skeleton stands over him with a bucket of slop. We move to the cell door and try to get his attention. He seems to be aware of us but can’t seem to focus. We have Pike come and pick the lock for us. Then we step in and Beltin takes a knee in front of the man and attempts to connect with him. Gonoan bashes the skeleton into pieces and the slop splashes on all of us. The man appears to be too weak to stand and Gonoan looks closely at the pile of clothing. There is scale mail, light mace, holy symbol of boccob, signet ring, and miscellaneous clothing items. Pike pleads for caution but is ignored. We remove the cloak(M) from him and carry him back to the bedroom, setting him in the chair at the table. Sanna demands to know who he is and Gonoan says we found him in a cell and we brought him here. She is adamant that we don’t know him and he could be evil. We compromise on tying his hands and taking him with us. However, no one is willing to actually tie his hands. Obregon discovers a pit trap in the floor and Pike disables it. The store room contains 20 yds silk, 40 yds linen, 10 lbs salt, 8 bottles brandy, barrel ale from ahlissa, 2 barrels common ale, small chest w/4 pearls, 2 rubies, 74 gp. We also find a secret door near the cells and behind it is a passageway that turns off to the north. We decide to close the door and come back later as we need to get Gonoan back to Greyhawk for healing. We bundle up the linen, silk, and salt, while the orc and the human are carried by Gonoan and Beltin. We manage to exit the tower without issue. On the way back, we notice more traffic and more patrols than usual. A number of them are sporting symbols of St Cuthbert. Once, in the distance, we see a couple of horsemen patrolling off the road. It seems these are from the Order of the Cudgel, a militant arm of the church. As we get closer to town, a couple of St Cuthbertians advise us to move around to the main gate as there have been issues with bandits in this area. As we approach the gate, we are told that adventurers enter by the gate we normally use. We move around and as we approach others are kicking in a door to a hovel and there is a cloaked figure on a wyvern perched on the end of the bridges balustrade. Beltin sets the man down and steps forward in a defensive posture. Nat casts bless. The orcs notice us and move behind cover; a few step out of the hovels. Obregon hits one orc with an arrow. Pike hides. Sanna casts scorching ray but misses. Gonoan charges the hurt one and kills it. The cloaked figure appears to be casting a spell. Beltin moves up and strikes another orc. Nat casts Eagles splendor on Sanna. The orcs gather behind cover except the one next to Beltin who swings and misses. Another moves up and hits Beltin. Obregon kills both orcs standing next to Beltin. Pike moves up, hides again and hits another orc with a bolt. Sanna cast lightning ball on 5 orcs and killing them all. Gonoan moves up and takes up a defensive posture. The wyvern takes to the air and moves by Beltin, the rider casts a spell which causes a cloud of glitter to appear around Obregon and Sanna which causes Nat to be visible and blind. Beltin breathes acid on the wyvern and its rider. Nat casts sanctuary on himself. The remaining orc steps up and hits Gonoan. Obregon shoots at the rider and the arrow veers away. Then he hits the wyvern with 2 arrows. Pike hits it with a bolt and then hides again. Sanna throws a lightning bolt and hits them both. The wyvern falls out of the sky and the rider hits the ground hard and is knocked unconscious. Gonoan bashes in the head of the last orc. What was this about?

The monster resembles a large brain with a beak and tentacles. It moves up to the net but makes no move to go through it. Beltin hits it with acid and Obregon slays it with 4 arrow hits. We search the room and find a small bag in one of the goblins sleeping pallets. It contains 3 pearls. We also notice some nicks in the wall next to one of the giantspallets which seem to be marking time; there are 154 marks. We decide to send Pike down into the crevasse to search. Sanna casts light on his armor. Gonoan and Beltin man the rope and lower him down. He searches the length and breadth but other than noting that the tentacle creature keeps its lair clean, he finds nothing of value. After coming back up, we move to the double doors to the south which are not locked or trapped. We open them and see a hallway that turns to the left a couple of times after a cave in that blocks most of the area beyond and ends at an alcove with a statue in it. This is a golden statue of a beautiful woman. Sanna moves up to examine it and is unable to determine who it may be of but does notice a shriveled corpse behind it. It has been dead for some time and is wearing rotted leather armor with a rusty short sword by its side. Natauru is unable to determine what deity it might represent. Sanna detects magic and it gives off a strong aura of illusion magic. Pike and Nat are able to see through the illusion and know it is a trap. Pike is able to disable it but no one can determine what the actual visage may represent. Pike searches the body and finds a silver ring on its finger. It is added to the bag of holding. We find nothing else in this area so move back to the large room and go to the other double doors. They open to a hallway with door on both sides and double doors at the end. These small rooms appear to be goblin quarters with bunk beds in each. We find nothing of interest or value. We move to the double doors and they are untrapped but locked. Pike picks the lock with ease and Gonoan hears a squeal from the other side such as that made by a loose cobblestone. We push the doors open. There is a large table in the center of this well appointed chamber with a roaring fire in the oversized fireplace and 2 suits of armor in the corners. There is a door on the north wall as well. Beltin and Gonoan step in while Sanna waves the detect magic wand around and the suits of armor glow as well as an aura coming from in front of the fireplace. The fireplace is large enough for 2 people to stand abreast. Sanna determines that the other aura is someone invisible and the being moves towards the other door. Gonoan and Beltin move to cut them off and Beltin intimidates them into speaking. It identifies itself at Therat and claims to be trying to take over the world. He advises us to leave before he kills one of us. The rest of the party listens to determine his location and find he is between a suit of armor and the door. Beltin is attempting to question him but Gonoan chops him twice with his axe. Beltin throws his hands up and just spits acid. Sanna throws a lightning bolt at it and it falls, becoming visible and we recognize it as a tiefling. It has a rapierM with acid, a potionM, 2 bottles of poison, studded leatherM and combat gear. We search the room and find a long list of supplies along with the dates they were acquired in and on the desk. Sanna gathers up the papers with the intent of going through them later. We check the door heading out and it’s not locked or trapped. We open the door and it leads to stairs going up 10 feet and yet another door. Pike checks the door and can see there is some light inside the next room. The door is locked but not trapped and he hears a female voice “I’ll hide in the bed”. Pike picks the lock on his 3rd attempt and pushes it open. Gonoan barges in and sees a comely female human on a large bed who cries out “help, save me” while a large half orc in full plate stands up from behind the table and growls “how dare you invade my domain”. He draws a long sword which bursts into flame and a short sword with his other hand that appears to be coated in poison. He appears angry for some reason. Obregon moves into the room and hits the orc with an alchemist arrow. Sanna hits it with an electric lance while Gonoan charges and buries his axe in his chest. The orc falls and the woman is laughing hysterically and hiding under the covers. Pike says she is being deceitful and Gonoan moves up and offers her a drink from her everfull mug. Pike then relieves the orc of its belongings (2 potionsM, flaming long swordM, masterwork short sword, wandM, full plate and 2 bottles poison) and Obregon goes to tie him up so we can question him. The woman moves to kiss Gonoan and says Atolomeers does not wish to be captured, he does not want to be seen as a failure by his master. Are you going to kill him? She says “kiss me you fool” and he does. He instantly loses a level and screams out”get that bitch”. Obregon shoots at her, his arrow hitting and bouncing off. Sanna casts burning hands, lighting the bed on fire but doing no immediate damage to her. Beltin breathes acid at her doing a little damage. She moves off the bed and to one wall where she reaches for something in the wall. “you are not going anywhere” Beltin and Gonoan hit her as she moves through them for a little damage each but Pike’s deadeye shot goes off and hurts her some. She doesn’t appear to take full damage from any of them. “You should all surrender to my charms”. Obregon hits her with a sleep arrow but she resists. Sanna casts Evards black tentacles which ensnares her. Suddenly, she vanishes. Beltin starts looking every direction while Gonoan and Obregon take defensive postures. She reappears by the body of the orc, looks at it “He will be ok, where are his potion bottles?” She spots them behind Obregon and casts suggestion on Gonoan, beckoning him to her side “Defend me”. Gonoan obeys and Obregon snatches up the potion bottles from the pile of loot, earning a withering glare from her. Sanna casts magic missile, and …..

We begin searching the dining hall and kitchen. We find nothing of interest. Pike checks the door to the north, finds nothing and opens it. This small room is full of barrels, kegs, and casks which smell of spirits. Gonoan starts opening them looking for something good to drink and finds water, oil, etc and they appear to be spoils from caravan heists. The other door is not locked or trapped either and opens to a pantry containing dry goods. We move to the double doors on the far side of the dining hall. Pike finds no traps and opens them. They open on a hallway running 2 directions, east to a stairway down and west to what appears to be an unused passage full of cobwebs and debris. Obregon detects that orcs and others frequently move through the east end but there is no recent movement the other way. Of course, we decide to take the road less traveled. It ends at a T junction with wide hallways running both directions. To the right, it ends at a cave in while to the left it curves back towards where we came from. We check the cave in and determine it is genuine and would be extremely difficult to get through. We go the other direction and there is a double door on the wall to our right and then a broad set of stairs going down ending in water. Pike declares the doors safe and attempts to open them. They feel as if something heavy is on the other side. We try but it seems as if something is pushing back against us. Gonoan hacks the doors down until we can see that there are 2 huge metal hands pressed up against the back of them. The hands are sticking out of a huge pile of boulders and rocks. Sanna determines that it is likely an iron golem. We move down towards the water and see that the water fills this stairwell. Gonoan moves down into the water and sees bodies laying around and what appears to be giant leeches swimming in the distance. Sanna decides to touch the giant hand and it slowly starts to close. We head back towards the feast hall and take the stairs down. They stop on a landing with a set of double doors to the south. Gonoan hears nothing and opens the doors on to a landing with double doors to the left and a passage to the right. There is shallow slow moving water from the right through the double doors. Gonoan looks down the passage to the right and looks around the bend it comes to. He sees the dampness is coming from cracks in the rock walls. Pike searches this dead end and finds a secret door. He detects no traps and figures out how to open it. He opens it and finds a room full of crates, barrels and leather bags. There are 2 elevator shafts in here; the descending is full of rock and debris while the ascending appears operable. There is a door to the left. We search the room and discover the bags contain dry rations as well as tents, simple weapons, cheap shields etc that you would stock to equip a small army. The west wall has crates full of heavier items such as arrows. Obregon stocks up. The east has the lighter items such as blankets and bulk cloth. Sanna uses detect magic on all of the items and discovers there is a secret door on the same wall as the door. Pike deems it safe and determines how to open it. He touches the opening mechanism and there is an explosion of fire and shrapnel. Sanna falls unconscious but everyone else is mostly all right. Beltin activates his fast healing and reawakens Sanna. Gonoan looks in through the secret door and sees another elevator shaft that goes down. It goes down about 50 feet to a lighted room and continues down to another lit room below that . We hear movement and voices in the lowest room. We shut the secret door and check the mundane door. Pike opens it and and it runs in to rubble. We decide to go back to the door at the bottom of the stairs. We open it and see a shattered temple with a crevasse from one end to the other. It is covered by nets. The ledge on one side is in fair repair but the other is in shambles. There is a large metal statue in the crevasse with its arms outstretched as if holding up the walls. At the far end of the wall is a defaced altar. There are 2 hill giants with a pile of rocks each as well as 4 goblins with bows around the room. Beltin moves across the room and takes cover. Obregon moves up and puts 2 arrows in one of the goblins. One goblin attempts to shoot at Beltin but misses. Then 2 shoot at Obregon, hitting once. The 4th manages to hit Beltin with an arrow. Pike moves quietly up but stays hidden. Gonoan moves up towards the enemies on one side. Sanna throws an electric ball and takes out 2 goblins and hurts the female giant. The giants throw boulders at Sanna and Beltin but miss. Beltin breathes acid at the female giant while Pike sneaks up and sticks a bolt in her gut. Gonoan charges and hits the other giant with his axe. Sanna shoots the first giant with an electric lance, taking her down. The other giant pulls out a huge sword and attempts to break Gonoans axe but fails. Obregon hits the giant with 2 arrows one of which is buried in its abdomen. Beltin moves to the end of the room. Pike moves up and shoots one of the goblins. Gonoan hacks the giant twice and blood sprays. Sanna throws an electric lance at the giant and it falls. Beltin moves up and takes the head off one goblin. Obregon puts an arrow in the forehead of the last goblin. We find hide armor, and a great club on each giant and 2 potions invisibility, and 7 doses of poison between the goblins. Each also has a shortbow, studded leather, rapier, and dagger. Sanna notices a flying tentacled monster flying just below the nets in the crevasse. What now?

Gonoan looks down the open shaft and can’t see the bottom but hears what sounds like a large creature and stone on stone. He also notices a large hole in the side of the shaft that seems to have fresh air blowing out of it. Beltin spider climbs down and looks into the hole. It looks like relatively new construction here and is mostly clean. There are stairs heading both up and down. He relates this to the rest of the party. We decide to check it out and climb down one at a time. When Gonoan gets down he notices a huge creature on its back at the bottom of the shaft. We decide to go up the stairs first and find they are blocked at the top. The rubble has been assembled and not the result of a cave in. Obregon determines that humanoid creatures have been moving through here as recently as yesterday. Pike can tell that the rocks have been moved and replaced indicating this is probably someones back door. We decide to move the rubble to see where it goes. While we are moving them, we uncover a trogolodyte zombie. Sanna attacks it with shocking grasp. Pike hits it with a bolt and Beltin melts it with acid. We move enough rocks to see through and see a cavern with lots of rock and debris as well as rotting corpses scattered throughout. We clear enough to get through while Sanna casts light on an arrow and shoots it into the room. We enter and see a large chamber that at one time held caravan goods when we were here previously. We search the area and bodies (goblins, trogolodytes, and gnome) and discover a chest. Pike checks it for traps and it is not trapped or locked. Sanna detects magic at it and observes a strange unidentifiable aura. Gonoan marches up and opens it and finds 40gp, a stoneM(faint conjuration), and iron keyM(zagyg). We head down the stairs to the bottom, which is lower than the bottom of the elevator shaft. It ends at a stone door, which is slightly ajar. Gonoan listens carefully but doesn’t hear anything specific. This is a small chamber which appears to be an old den with moldering hay pushed to one side. The door across from us stands open. Gonoan detects the lingering stench of trolls. Through it is a long room full of barrels, crates, etc at the far end with a hall off to the right. There are a number of doors along the same side we came out of. We open the first and see more moldering hay and cracked bones. Pike searches it and finds nothing of interest. We move to the next door and it is the same. The hall ends at a double door after ten feet. Suddenly we hear movement from the staircase we came down. Sanna closes the door and we hear something come in and ask what is going on. It tries to open the door that Sanna is holding closed. It then runs back up the stairs. Beltin goes in and closes the secret door. We finish searching the small rooms and find a gold candelabra (40gp). The crates and barrels are unopened and marked as different food stuffs. We move to the double doors and check them out. Gonoan hears the sounds of people eating and can actually smell roast boar. The doors are unlocked and Beltin and Gonoan throw them open. This is a large kitchen with big fireplaces on opposite corners, a door across from us, to the right and hallway off to our left. A voice from the other room calls out “What was that?” Beltin bluffs and convinces them he is no threat and the voice asks for a piece of meat “and be quick about it”. Gonoan takes off and charges down the hallway with the rest of us following behind. We enter a dining hall with a handful of orcs at tables eating while a half ogre is seated atop a dais eating as well. Pike attempts to block the extra doors in the kitchen while Sanna throws a lightning ball into the hall. Obregon hits the ogre with an arrow. Pike hits an orc with a sneak attack bolt through the neck, killing him instantly. Sanna hits 2 orcs with scorching rays, killing both. Beltin breathes acid on the ogre while Gonoan chops him twice with his great axe felling him like an oversize tree. Obregon shoots at the remaining orc, dropping it. We loot the bodies and find a chain shirt, potion bottleM and great swordM on the ogre as well as a great axe, 2 throwing axes, banded mail and potion bottle on each of the orcs. Let’s eat…

Beltin swings at the swarm and disperses it. Mama spider sprays web in the room entangling everyone but Pike and Nat. Gonoan breaks himself free from the web. Pike hits the spider with a crossbow bolt. Sanna hits it with an electric lance. Beltin breaks free and moves around the webbed area towards the spider. The spider bites Sannas head and moves up a bit, out of reach. Obregon struggles to free himself but fails. Gonoan cuts Obregon free and Pike hits the spider with another bolt. Sanna tries to hit it with another spell but her hands are too entangled in the web. Beltin breathes acid on it and the spider covers him with web again. Obregon hits it with 2 arrows. It is seriously injured and dripping ichor on Beltin. Pike sticks another bolt in it. Sanna finishes it off with a volley of magic missiles. We begin clearing webs and searching the room, finding 60gp of loot, 20 gp, potion(faint enchantment), bottle(faint conjuration), bootsM(agile leaping), and gauntletsM(brawlers). Beltin puts on the gauntlets while Pike slips on the boots. Pike attempts to determine what the boots do; eliminating move silently and finding that he jumps higher. The party travels back to the large empty room. Pike searches the entry way for traps and finds none. He then moves to one of the murder holes, listens, looks and sees enough to know that there is a hallway with a space carved for an archer on the other side. It appears that it connects to the large hallway so Gonoan, Sanna and Nat go around and find the way through. They find the hallway leads around and past a doorway. Sanna stops at the door but Gonoan moves on to where the hall turns down towards the murder holes. There are2 well made stone doors flush with the wall along one side. Beltin, Pike and Obregon come around to join up where Pike checks the first door and opens it. Beltin steps in and sees skeletons scattered among hacked up furniture and a large fireplace that dominates one wall. There are 2 doors on the other wall. Pikes searches and finds a gold nose ring, and silver armband. Gonoan steps up and listens at the first door. He opens it when he hears nothing and sees a pile of moldering clothing with the occasional glint of gold in this large closet. Pike pokes through it and finds 125 gp. We move down to the first stone door, Pike checks it and figures out how to open it despite the lack of obvious handle. Gonoan pushes it open and we see a large fireplace dominating the far wall and the wooden remains of the furniture littered around the room. There are 3 wooden doors opposite us. We move in and begin searching and moving the remnants to the corner. We find 20gp amongst the detritus. Beltin opens the first door while Gonoan takes number 2. Sanna attempts to kick in the third but fails. Beltin finds a pile of coal behind his, Sanna sees an empty dust filled room, Gonoan finds an abandoned armory with a hand full of weapons still hanging on the racks. We stick the 2 longswords, battle axe, and heavy flail in Pike’s bag of holding. We move to the other stone door which Gonoan opens and sees what appears to be a storeroom. Several smashed barrels litter the floor and a noxious odor wafts over us. Beltin enters but finds nothing of interest. We use our wand of detect secret doors to verify we haven’t missed anything in this area but find nothing else. We head out and over to where the force walls were located and find they are still active. Gonoan notices that this should be the fourth level though we seem to still be on the 3rd. We decide to reexplore the elevator room to see if they lead down. One of the shafts leads down and we can hear sinister noises emanating from it. What could be making such sounds?

Gonoan looks through the arch way and sees a charnel house that used to be a kitchen. There are mutilated corpses of adventurers and dungeon denizens scattered around the room. There is a door on the far side. Nat wonders how these fairly fresh corpses can be in an area that was supposedly impossible to enter. He feels the bipedal creatures were attempting to defend themselves from something but not likely us. Pike crosses the kitchen to listen at the door and hears a slight noise in the kitchen and screams out to the rest of us that there is something in the room with him. He flees immediately and Sanna throws a shout spell in to the room. Gonoan looks hard in to the kitchen but sees nothing new while Beltin grabs the torch up. Pike looks back and sees the legs of one of the gangly bipedal creatures and fires his crossbow at it but misses. Sanna casts burning hands in that direction and Beltin moves up and throws the torch in to the room. The creature hits Sanna twice and turns invisible. One attacks Obregon from behind but misses. Gonoan moves toward the new one and Pike hits it with a crossbow bolt. The original one reappears, attempts to overturn a barrel, fails and turns invisible again. Beltin moves in to the doorway to prevent it escaping but it reappears and attempts to attack Sanna but she hits it with shocking grasp first and kills it. We notice that one of the doors is now ajar so Gonoan moves up and closes it. We then hear it moving towards the double doors we entered from. It opens the door and Obregon and Pike take shots with Obregon’s arrow killing it. Sanna takes a neutralize poison potion. We barricade the doors around the room and begin searching everything. We find a ring(M, faint abjuration) on each of the creatures and 100 gp worth of loot amongst the bodies as well as 300 gp, and 2 rings(M, faint transmutation, faint evocation ). We sleep and recover. We check the room with the previously ajar door and see a large table with a hastily abandoned meal on it. There are 3 tapestries on the walls. Sanna examines the tapestries in this octagonal room. The first one shows a pyramid above a giant spiral staircase, the second depicts 5 large humanoids in various poses of devotion, the last a line of slaves of various underdark races, some of whom are wounded. Nat identifies the underdark races, believes the humanoids are ogre mages, and knows nothing about the pyramid. We search the room and find nothing of value. Pike listens at the next door and hears nothing, finds no traps and it is not locked. When opened, we see an L shaped room. Gonoan looks around the corner and there is a hallway with 4 doors. We open the first door and it has a simple bed in it but nothing else. The second door is stuck and we kick it in. It appears the same as the first. Sanna kicks in the third and is the same again. The fourth is kicked in by Gonoan and is the same as well. We go to the door off the kitchen and hear nothing. We open it and see moldering food stuffs. We search the room and find nothing of value. Nat notices the foods are from the underdark. We move back to the T junction outside this area and see double doors down a short hall one direction while the other opens into a large room that is almost completely empty. All furniture has been removed. There are 3 murder holes along the back wall. We listen at the double doors and hear nothing. They are not trapped or locked. When we attempt to open them, we find they are covered by webs on the inside. Most of us down our anti toxins in anticipation. There is a pair of old winches in this large web covered recklessly casts blast of electricity in the middle of the room. A humanoid form cocooned in webbing falls on to the platform and bursts into a swarm of spiders. Beltin moves up and breathes acid on it. A giant spider drops from above the door and attacks Sanna but misses. Obregon moves up and shoots it once. Gonoan swings at it and hits it once. Nat realizes these are tomb spiders and vulnerable to positive energy. Pike shoots at it and misses. Sanna steps out and waits. Why spiders???

We loot the bodies and blob and find nothing of value. Pike searches the altar and finds nothing. Sanna attempts to reassemble the broken statue to learn what it was of. She believes it is of some sort of god that resembles a troll. Gonoan looks into the room that the minotaurs came out of. There are bones littering the floor and manacles with chains set in to the wall, and keys hanging on the opposite wall. He goes and looks in to the opposite room and sees a bedchamber. The door has mostly been eaten by acid. It contains a moldy bed with a dismembered skeleton on it and a wardrobe takes up one wall. There is also a crumbling desk and chair. A number of pegs have been driven in to the walls. We decide to explore the bone room first. The manacles are masterwork, the keys work in them and Pike places them in his bag of holding. He also finds 32gp of loot amongst the bones. We move to the bedchamber. Pike begins searching the desk and notices some green mold. He decides not to touch it as it looks ready to crumble. The massive wardrobe contains tattered clothing on both sides but there are none in the center. There is a secret door in that part of the wardrobe and Pike checks it for traps. Meanwhile, Sanna enters the room and decides to hit the desk with her spiked gauntlet and mold billows up around it. She begins to cough as it settles but doesn’t appear to take any harm. The secret door had no trap on it. We notice the dismembered skeleton is missing its head and arms as Pike searches the bed. He then goes to open the secret door, hears nothing through it and manages to figure out how to open it. A few of us notice an odd buzzing noise coming from somewhere that we are unable to determine accurately. We open the secret door and a short corridor leads to a heptagonal room. It appears to be a bedchamber untouched by previous looters. A female skeleton is curled up on the dusty bed. A dusty vanity holds the glimmer of gold. There is writing on the wall in blood which says “my beloved, dead, killed by those villains. Not dead for long my love. I saw it become the blob and take his head. It would have taken mine too if it could have. Take my bones from this place so I can rest in peace and tell my friends of my fate. Amarinna Starwatch.” Pike puts her remains in a large sack and then into his bag of holding. He searches the room and finds a golden comb, gold earrings and assorted other jars and containers. Sanna sweeps these chambers with the wand of detect magic but finds nothing. Pike then searches the main chamber and finds a secret door behind the altar. He opens it and sees a passage heading in 2 different directions. We take the left hand one. There are double doors down on the left and a passage off to the right just past it. Pike checks the doors for traps and don’t find any. He does hear the strange buzzing behind the door. We push open the doors and see a large octagonal room. There are upturned tables and chairs around the room and a large table atop a raised platform. An archway is to the right and two doors across the room. All of a sudden, out of the gloomy reaches of the room, some gangly bipeds without nose or mouth, with multi faceted eyes and large claws move from behind the broken furniture. We are surprised and 2 of them fly at us, attacking Gonoan and Pike. Gonoan takes a hit but they miss Pike. Gonoan hits the one in front of him, while Pike hits his as well. Pike then moves back behind Beltin. Gonoan gets attacked again with one claw and its stinger. The other hits Beltin with a claw. Nat does not know what these creatures are. Beltin sprays his with acid. Sanna throws an orb of electricity at the one in front of Gonoan which falls. Obregon puts 3 arrows in the one on Beltin which drops. Gonoan charges one of the remaining but misses and Pike fails to hit it with his crossbow. They turn invisible. One attacks Gonoan and hits twice. Beltin moves up and goes defensive. Sanna comes up and puts out a cone of lightning. Obregon attempts to hit the one that attacked Gonoan to no avail. Gonoan steps back and drinks a potion. Pike shoots where he thinks one is but misses. One attacks and hits Gonoan twice. The other charges and hits Sanna. Beltin moves up and hits the one on Gonoan. Sanna casts burning hands and kills the one attacking her. Obregon hits the other with an arrow killing it. We search the room and find magical rings on each of the bipedal creatures as well as a potion bottle each(resist energy). Sanna checks them for magic and detects faint abjuration on all of the items. The creatures have a chitinous covering but there are fairly fresh organs stored inside of them. We find nothing else of interest in the main room. (405 xp) What is behind the other doors?

As we move through the halls, we notice that the cosmetic damage we caused has been repaired but traps and treasure have not been reset despite the time that has passed. The clean areas are building up dirt and debris, which is also unusual. As we get close to Gouger’s lair, we begin to exude odd smells, and then begin to speak as internet cats. This passes as we get through the magically warped rooms. All evidence of the troll’s habitation has been removed from his room. We go down the trapdoor to the tunnel below and we each burst into green magical non-damaging flames. Pike checks the brass door and finds no traps while Gonoan listens at it and hears what sounds like bone scraping on stone. We open the doors and see several large skeletal 2-headed humanoids armed with morningstars. Beltin spits acid at them and they attack him and Gonoan. They score one hit on Gonoan who charges and hits one. Obregon shoots one 4 times but it doesn’t do full damage. Sanna hits it with 2 scorching rays and it explodes into bone splinters. Beltin steps up and smacks one twice. They attempt to hit us and do manage to hit Gonoan again. They then each pull out a second Morningstar. Gonoan hits his twice with his axe and Obregon breaks up 4 more arrows in its bony backside. Bone shards are filling the air. Sanna destroys one with a scorching ray and burns the other. The remaining one hits Beltin but falls to a massive hit from Gonoan. Their morningstars are old and rusty and they also have a javelin but nothing of value. We search the room and besides the impaled corpses of large humanoids, we don’t find anything of interest. Nat identifies the bodies as dungeon dwellers such as trogolodytes, ogres. Sanna casts light on a bone and drops it down the grate. It seems to bounce off something but disappears from view within a couple of feet indicating some sort of magical darkness. Rather than force the grate we decide to head back to the Blackstone crypt and go down through the chasm there. We turn the pillars and re-open the chasm doors. Gonoan looks in and sees it goes about 70’ down and is cavernous but doesn’t look naturally carved. Beltin spider climbs down to the closest opening and looks in. He sees a passage heading away. He keeps moving around checking openings until it is obvious that none of them are more interesting than the others. He reports this to the others and we all climb down and begin exploring. Most of the tunnels just loop back to the chasm but we eventually find a larger area leading in different directions. We can feel dampness from one direction and head that way. This ends at a fast flowing river full of giant pikes. The other side appears to be caved in and scorched. Walking along the river in either direction would be hazardous so we head back and go a different direction. We come into a low tunnel and find a ladder going up. Beltin spider climbs up the ladder well and finds it dead ends. He searches but finds no exit. We send Pike up to look around and he finds a secret door. It has no traps and he discovers the mechanism to operate it and opens it quietly. We let the others know to come up and Beltin enters this low passageway. After about 20’, it turns to the right. It goes another 15’ or so and stops. Pike moves up and searches the area, finding a secret trap door in the ceiling. It is not trapped and he hears nothing behind it. He opens this one and it opens into an old chapel. To the right is passage with an empty dais on either side of it. There is the stump of a large statue in the center as well and an ancient altar composed of old red bones on one wall. Beltin climbs in and spots a black blob with decayed body parts in it some of which appear to be trying to escape. There are also 3 minotaur zombies down another passage. The blob advances on Beltin and slams him. Beltin then breathes acid on the zombies. Gonoan pops up and hits the blob. The lead minotaur attacks Beltin with a great axe and causes him some damage. Sanna joins us and throws up a wall of electricity between Beltin and the zombies. Obregon comes up and tries to shoot the blob but misses. The blob sends negative energy into the lead zombie and moves down another hall. Beltin and Gonoan manage to get hits in on it as it goes. Gonoan then follows it and finishes it off. The minotaurs move back away from the lightning wall, in to what appears to be another room. Sanna lets the wall drop and throws a lightning bolt down the hall at them. Obregon follows that up with 4 arrows in to the lead one. Beltin moves down the trapdoor and asks Nat for healing. Gonoan charges the next one and hews it down. The next one in line charges and hits Gonoan. Sanna kills that one with scorching ray. Nat uses the healing belt on Beltin. Gonoan charges the last and gets hit in return. Sanna finishes it off with magic missiles. Will we discover any treasure?

As we move around town selling goods and buying new stuff, there are notices announcing a 6000 gp bounty on Laurus Racknian’s head. We also hear that in order to eliminate any remaining wights in the sewers, the city has added additional gelatinous cubes to patrol down there. Pike pokes around and finds that nothing is working as normal in town due to 3000 people being dead. The city staff is spread thin, basic services are slowed and looting is rampant. He has trouble locating his thieves’ guild contacts and tries to make contact through the beggar’s guild. Adventurers are running around looking for Racknian, a lot of them heading into the Greyhawk ruins. Pike heads into the thieves guild building in an attempt to check in since he can’t find his contacts. They are not very interested and let him know that Ratic is out of town. He leaves a message and goes on. Sanna goes to the wizards guild library to research the dragon egg. She learns that it is a black dragon egg but does not find out any more information. Beltin learns from his lady friend that business has been slow due to a lack of people coming in to town. The merchant and middle classes were hurt harder by the events in the arena. Sanna hears some information about the arena, that the worm was under the black dome below the grounds with some forgotten access points. None of Racknians guards or workers knew about his plans. Also, Zagyg apparently built some of that area with things that are for the future as if he knew some things that would happen later. We head out of town, through the main gate then past the refugee camps. We cross Zagyg’s bridge and down the trail, through the woods to the ruins we ago. We toss some coins to the beggars around the bridge. We arrive at the ruins and notice there is nothing going on at Zagig’s tower, there is a rumor that some magical force is preventing anyone from accessing the tower of magic. Sanna decides to head over to the tower of magic to inspect this “barrier”. Nat and Obregon accompany her. Obregon sees kobold tracks and notices evidence of kobolds around the base of the tower of magic. Sanna and Nat approach with open arms raised “we come in peace, just wanted to inspect the towers barrier” They appear to be neutral at the sight of Nat. They claim to have taken over the tower, the elves who had been here were destroyed by a demon. Now there are fanatic Zagyg followers inhabiting the tower. The party is reunited and heads to the war tower. Grebuld the dwarf greets us and Stygar comes out to say hello. They are pleased to see us return and notice that we have gained much since our last visit. After we enter the main hall, the wagon pulled by the skeletal horses and driven by a howling specter begins to move toward us. There are also 2 sword wraiths on skeletal horses on both sides of the room. Gonoan moves up a little bit and prepares to receive a charge, Sanna moves to the side with Nat, Pike readies an attack in case they attack us, Obregon does the same, Beltin moves up next to Gonoan and activates his acid aura. The wagon charges Gonoan and Beltin. Sanna and Obregon kill the first horse. Gonoan accepts the hit and hits back. Beltin dodges and takes a glancing blow. The second horse disintegrates after dealing with Beltin’s acid aura. Now the sword wraiths dismount and move adjacent to Gonoan and Beltin. Gonoan takes a chunk out of one while Sanna hits them both with a lightning bolt, destroying one of them. The driver leaves the wagon and flies at Sanna attacking her but missing. Natauru manages to turn the driver, Pike hits the sword wraith and Obregon finishes it off. He then hits the spectral driver with 2 arrows. Beltin attempts to hit it with acid but fails to penetrate its incorporealness. Gonoan charges it and misses as well. Sanna swings at it with shocking grasp to no avail. It flees through the wall. We find this encounter to be disconcerting as we have been through this room many times without issue and never before have the sword wraiths attacked without provocation. Sanna loots the sword wraiths and finds breastplates, long swords, heavy steel shields, torcs(200gp) and heavy crossbows with bolts. We begin moving through the tower towards the former lair of Gouger. What other surprises lay in our path?

We return to the keep and have our wounds tended to. They have a new captain, Zorgon. Marzina asks for our tale. We notice she has an new owl familiar, Ahiloor. We go up to the 2nd floor and settle in. We relate our encounter with the dragon, leaving out the parts about the lizard folk disappearances. We spend the night and head back to Lower Eery the next day. Beltin leads us back to his family home where his mother comes out to greet us. She says he is looking pretty good and what was his father not telling her. Beltin tells her that we had an encounter with Illthain but she chose not to kill us. She is going to send for his father and make dinner. We visit with some of the towns folk who stop by as well as Beltin’s friends. Sanna relates our tale of facing the dragon with much embellishment which Beltin’s friends eat up, drooling over her “charms”. Parlax returns and goes to wash up before dinner. After dinner, he meets with us and says that Beltin should talk with Axon himself in person. The group wants to go with but Parlax warns that they should not show up empty handed. We should bring his favorite meal, a giant scorpion. We relate the entire adventure for Beltin’s dad. The next day, we stock up on anti-toxin and head into the hills. Obregon attempts to track down a giant scorpion. We run across a pack of 3 and move in to engage. Sanna and Obregon hit one with ranged attacks but it is not quite dead. Gonoan and Beltin move towards another and Beltin breathes acid on it. One of the scorpions charges Gonoan and misses but Beltin gets in a hit as it goes by. Another charges Beltin but misses. The third charges Gonoan as well and hits him for a little damage. Sanna hits both damaged scorpions with scorching rays and toasts them. Gonoan charges the last one, taking a hit in the process, and hits it. Beltin, Pike, and Obregon finish it off. We drag one of the carcasses with us and begin climbing. We come across 210gp in coins, and a scroll of heroism(5th lvl caster), 700gp statuette, 6000 gp tapestry, 1200gp vase, 1000gp painting. We reach Axon after a long morning of climbing. He is courteous and says he is proud of Beltin’s adventuring. He asks for the story and we tell him everything. He did not want to battle Illthain but Beltin counters that we didn’t either but she was waiting for us. Axon agrees with Nat that it was most likely a trap. He is troubled about the egg and reveals that Illthain has a brood in Ahlissa. The egg will likely be found by Illthain unless she doesn’t care. If no one brings it out, it may interrupt her plans. No way to tell. We are asked what we believe is going on. We let him know our concerns about Bronwins boyfriend. Axon tells us that we need to learn what the connections are. We talk about balance of power, in accordance with Bronwins boyfriend, the dungeon master and tiamat. Axon feels that Illthain is trying to recreate the lizard king of old and to unite all of the lizard folk in some nefarious scheme. We suspect that Illthain has allowed rumors of the male dragon to spread to prevent people from going into the ruins in the swamp as she searches for the mystery magic item. Do we feel that Bronwin’s lover is a danger? Is Bronwin being manipulated or manipulating him? We are told to find understanding of the power players around the area and always be looking for allies. Now it is his dinner time and we decline the option to share in it. He is concerned that Greyhawk is on the precipice of turning into a necropolis. The ruins seem to be infested with large amounts of clerics of different evil gods which are capable of creating a lot of undead. As we feel this seems to be his greatest concern, we decide to head towards Greyhawk. Sanna mentions that she would like to return to her hometown of Hardby at some point to visit with her father but feels that dealing with Iuz and the greyhawk ruins is more pressing. Axon has left by this point and we return down the hills. After going through Lower Eery, we head towards Greyhawk. When we arrive, we notice there is light traffic leaving the city but almost no traffic going towards. The gate is very crowded as apparently some of the other gates are closed and there are a lot of guards checking people in. The security scrutiny is thorough and martial law is still in effect. They are generally confident that they have gotten most of the undead rooted out but are still worried. We arrive during Brewfest and find the celebrations are muted. After returning home, we head out to sell our loot. It costs us 330gp to identify the magical items. Beltin and Pike use their charm to get us better deals and we get 100% of the tapestry, 90% of the statuette, 105% of the painting, 80% of the vase, and 90%of the ring, 5139 gp total for each of us! How will we spend it?
