The ogres approach and charge. One hits Sanna pretty hard as she moves away and we get in some hits in the first round. One of them charges Beltin and almost kills him but Gonoan and Obregon get in big hits and take them both down. We find hide armor+1, 1015gp, Greatclubs+1, 2005gp, and rings of protection +1,2000gp, on the ogres. We move back to the room we found the injured bandits in to spend the night. We rest uneventfully. In the morning, we go towards the locked door in the lift chamber. It has unnamed enchantments on it and Beltin unlocks and opens the door. It opens onto a spiral staircase going down. We head down. At the bottom we enter a room with 4 large braziers around a pile of skulls being constructed by 3 human skeletal warriors, with 3 skeletal wolves in attendance. They charge us. Beltin and Gonoan each kill one and Naturu turns the rest. The wolves flee down the staircase. Beltin kicks over the pile of skulls; Obregon and Pike search the pile and find a symbol underneath. When we look down the staircase, we see a dead bugbear on the floor next to an alcove with the sculpture of a leering skull in it and the floor is scorched. The symbol on the floor is of Wee-Jas. Pike searches the bugbear and finds a mace with the head shaped like a skull which Obregon takes. There are more stairs going down to a set of double doors or a passage to the west. We opt for the passage. It leads to a pair of double doors behind which is a steep stair case into a frigid room that appears to have been a refrigerated area. We head back to the other set of doors and open them. They open onto a long hallway. There are double doors a short way down on the left. We open them and there is a small chapel with an altar at the end of a set of pews with a blood red tapestry depicting a skull headed mace. As we move into the room, a large mace with the head of a skull rises up and sends blackness through the room. It curses Obregon. We attack it and discover it has hardness and is difficult to damage. Gonoan rages and starts whaling on it. Naturu attempts to turn it without success. Pike sneaks forward to try and get behind it. Sanna hits it with electricity. Beltin and Obregon keep hitting it and doing no damage while Gonoan keeps beating it down. Pike attempts to disable it and fails. Sanna hits it with acid. It continues attacking Beltin. Beltin breathes acid on it. Pike finally manages to disable it though we keep hitting it until it is destroyed. We search the room and find nothing. We leave and return to Greyhawk to heal Pike and Obregon.

We decide to thoroughly search the room with the large double doors. We find random loot between 10 and 30 gp. We recall that there are runes just inside the wall of force that say “Death is the key to passage beyond; so too are there keys to passage below”. Sanna uses the wand of detect magic and finds the runes, statues, doors and the eye are magical plus there is a haze of necromancy pervading the room. The statues appear to be moveable so we move them onto the runes in different combinations until one is on dark and the other on earth. An ornate key falls out of the air in front of the door. Beltin unlocks the door, pushes them open and the dwarven statues come to life. They begin to move towards Beltin. We manage to destroy them with no casualties. When they break apart, there is loot in the rubble worth 135 gp. There are also 4 potions. This large room has a large death symbol on the floor and a large statue of a dwarf holding an everburning flame. Sanna uses her wand on this room and it also reeks of necromantic magic. When we step into the room, dust and debris swirl up into 3 tiny creatures that move to attack. Beltin hits them with acid and Sanna with burning hands. Pike hits one and they triple team him, hitting him a few times. Pike moves away and they follow but fall to attacks from the rest of us. Pike loses some Strength and his skin turns green. We begin to search the room as Sanna attempts to identify the potions. They are Potions of repair light damage. We hear a noise from out in the large room which Naturu identifies as humanoid shaped undead. We move to intercept them. It is 2 ghouls. Beltin and Gonoan get in good hits but Gonoan is sickened by their stench. We take them down pretty quickly and resume searching the room. Pike finds a secret panel in the chest of the statue with a lever inside. He pulls the lever and the statue moves to the side revealing a dwarven corpse. We see crystals(4 magic (crystal of life drinking least400,return least300, security (300), illumination(100) ), anklet(translocation;conjuration1400), gauntletsM(lightning;evocation;1000gp) on the body. Pike checks for traps and finds none. We search the body and find an ornate key and 110 gp. Pike starts removing items. Sanna takes the anklet and crystals, Pike puts on the gauntlets and Beltin holds the key and gold. Is that ogres we hear?

Sanna casts a fireball and hits them all, both swarms are destroyed. The shaedlings create walls of darkness and cut off our sight of them. Sanna throws an ice knife through at them. Beltin goes through the shadow wall and attacks one. They both attack him and do a little damage. Gonoan comes through and attacks as well. One retreats and gets taken down. Sanna hits the other with magic missiles and Beltin breathes acid on it and it falls. We start to search the room. Gonoan and Pike start checking alcoves. The doors are metal and sealed. The open alcoves are burial chambers with 18 dwarven bodies in each. They find nothing in the first 3. Meanwhile the rest search the symbols and pillars. We discover that the Blackstone crest is on each. The pillars have the symbols orientation varied on each side. We turn them with great effort. Over the iron bound double door it says”4 facing forward, stand upright Blackstone stand, 2 facing inward, seal darkness deep by hand. We figure out how to position the pillars which cause the symbols to raise up. We turn them inward and metal plates close off the chasm. We also hear the double doors unlock. Then a sword wraith descends the stairs and enters the room. We brace for an attack but do not attack first. The wraith approaches Sanna and gestures towards the stairs up. Sanna moves away and the wraith becomes angry and attacks Beltin. Sanna and Obregon attack with readied actions doing a little damage. It hits Beltin who returns the hit. Sanna attempts to hit it with a spell that doesn’t affect it. Obregon shoots it 3 times and it disappears. We approach the double door and open it. We see a large room with 8 sarcaphogi, huge double doors, a flaming eye in the floor surrounded by dwarven runes, 2 everburning braziers and 2 statues of dwarven warriors. We carefully move up to the flaming eye and Gonoan reads the runes. They are a series of words, repeated on each side but in different orders. The pupil of the flaming eye is a moving sphere which we can occasionally see a key hole in. We look around the room and find no clues to tell us how to move on. We start searching everything. The braziers contain stones with continual flame. Pike removes his and narrowly avoids a dart trap. Under the stone is a lever. Beltin pulls it and the eye’s pupil stops revolving. We try some combinations with the stones on the runes with no effect. We move back out and search the remaining alcoves, looking desperately for a key. Gonoan searches the miniature forge and the symbol of Moradin depresses. A flaming ooze comes out and attacks him. The rest of the party rushes to his aid; Sanna kills it with an ice knife. Gonoan looks into the opening and sees nothing. But he does get an adamantine holy symbol. We manage to open the sealed alcove doors and find the crypts of nobles but still no key. Where is the key???

We finish speaking to the mages but learn nothing of interest. We decide to head back to Greyhawk and go looking for Marcus to arrange a caravan for us to accompany. He is surprised that we are alive and takes some time to examine us to determine that we are who we say we are. He does know of a caravan we can work with on the way back. We arrive in Greyhawk without incident. We check in to the Griffon’s nest. Sanna reports in at the Mage’s guild. He relates our adventures to his contact who has nothing new for him. He then goes to the magic school and asks about the monks order. He learns they are the Kallemach, an evil order. The Shadowin monks may know more. Pike and Gonoan go to check in at the thieve’s guild. Tirra meets him and listens to his tale. She is not very interested in what we have done and is disappointed that he has done nothing for the guild. She instructs him to stay away from the guild as he is being scryed unless she tells him otherwise. She will assign him a handler and they will be in touch. She will also look into the Kallemach monks. Obregon and Beltin start looking at houses. After the rest of the group go to bed, Pike stays up to meet his handler. He notices a pair of halflings go to the bar. Another Halfling(Gurps) joins him and takes him out on the street to show him around the area he will be working. As they left, Pike notices the other 2 halflings are talking about trying to kill him. When they return, the sober one starts to follow him but when Pike turns to confront him, he backs down. The next day we head to Castle Greyhawk. We enter through the elevator shaft. We head towards the door way with the Wall of Force. We head down the stairs amid a blue glow. At the bottom we enter a large room with alcoves along the walls, a large platform in the middle with a whole in it with cerulean light leaking out of it. In the first alcove, we see an altar with a mini forge on top, which appears to be giving off heat. The second has an iron bound door in front of it. Pike listens but hears nothing. All of a sudden, a pair of black skinned creatures fly out of the hole in the platform accompanied by 2 swarms of spiders. To arms…

The next morning, we get Sanna healed and finish gearing up. We then head to the Black Coffin funeral home. We enter and are met by the undertaker (Froyo Rewards) who seems genuinely surprised to see us alive. He leads us to a side room and explains the process for showing the bodies and holding them to be claimed and that he doesn’t know what the final disposition of our bodies was. He knows we were sent to a holding area outside the city to await someone claiming us. He excuses himself to find out what happened after that. When he returns, he says that our bodies should still be there. He is going to go look for himself. We strongly push to accompany him but he states that that would be illegal as he can’t be sure who we are. He does agree to take a witness of our choosing with him. We send Obregon to fetch a priest from the Church of St Cuthbert while the rest of us stake out the exits to prevent him leaving without us. Pike stalks Froyo through the building. We notice a number of crows hanging around an outdoor, fenced yard. Gonoan and Sanna keep an eye on the rear exits while Beltin returns to the front. Pike hears him talking to someone else about their procedures and trying to make sure they did everything correctly. He does hear that our gear was stored at the Legion of Doom. Obregon gets to the church and obtains the services of an acolyte (Aquinnah) to act as our witness. We introduce the acolyte to the undertaker. The undertaker states that he is no longer going to check the bodies as he is not legally responsible. We take Aquinnah to the holding area. The guard shows us where our bodies are held. We find they all hold dead animal bodies and that the locks have been tampered with. Obregon finds some fine thread on the floor. The other bodies are intact and the empty trays are actually empty. Pike searches and finds no other exits. Sanna detects magic but finds nothing. We talk to the guard captains and learn Neves(human), Girn(1/2 orc), Chamriana(human), Sierno the faithless(human) are the ones who recovered our bodies. We meet with a detective and explain the tale to him. After, we head to the Legion of Doom. They open the peep hole, Pike smarts off and they close it again. They refuse to answer after that. Sanna gets pissed and uses fist of stone on the door. They answer and we ask about our stuff. They say that it was all stolen a week after they received it. There was no break in, it was just missing. We then went searching for the adventurers that found us. We learn they were around for a while but left sometime after the funeral, which they attended. They appeared to be checking out who showed up and who didn’t. Common opinion is that they were all unsavory. Next, we head to the mage’s guild. They don’t seem interested in what happened or have anything relevant. We do learn that Bronwyn has sought out dark magic before and had been kicked out of another mage guild in her past. She was well thought of in Dyver’s and had been called on for her ability to speak with dead.

We head towards the fresco room. Gonoan steps in and nothing happens. Pike notices a shadowy wisp in the fresco that doesn’t seem to belong. Pike begins to move around the perimeter of the room opposite the wisp. He searches the door and finds it untrapped and unlocked, so he opens the door. This leads to a star shaped room with doors at each point and mutilated bodies, guts and blood around. Pike begins to search the room while Obregon uses track to figure out what has been going on. He determines which door they came in and we notice that this is the remains of the brothers Hamish. We find writing above each of the doors, they are cryptic and menacing. We head through the door the brothers came through. It is a short hallway that ends in a door. Pike searches his way to the door which has no lock. He opens the door and finds an odd room with a 3’ runnel along the perimeter. We see holes in the walls and iron loops in the floor. Through the next door is a long hallway. Pike opens the door at the end and we see a room lined with old human skeletons. Across the room, in front of one of the doors, lies Charleg Hamish. Natauru determines that he is dead. We move the body and open the door. We see the room in which the Hamish brothers died with a stone door at the other end. Obregon checks the tracks and notices the earth creature never left the room and a gargoyle has gone through the room. Gonoan determines that the door would open when touched. He touches it and it becomes a large earth elemental that stands still. We exit to the outside and a gargoyle flies away. We head towards the river and make camp nearby. We make it back to Dyvers. When we return to the Sleepy Dragon, they are surprised to see we are alive. We have been missing for 5 weeks. The innkeeper says he attended our funerals. We are understandably confused. Beltin, Pike and Natauru head towards the church to seek healing, but Sanna decides to stay behind and get drunk. We manage to get healed. Meanwhile the rest meet with the merchant’s guild reps. We learn that they do not know who paid for the funerals but point us to the funeral home that handled us. They accept we are who we say are and pay us the 1000 gp. We sell off our superfluous gear and restock. Treasure is 938 gp, 67sp, 112 cp each. (notice this is 200 gp extra as I forgot to include the 1000gp reward)

We choose to start at the trapezoidal room. We enter and begin searching. We don’t find anything. Gonoan senses that we are about 30’ underground. Sanna returns to the center room and checks the pool for any clues but finds nothing. Pike searches the great eye and finds a secret door. It leads to a small room with 2 doors. Beltin enters. Pike checks the doors while others search the room. Pike unlocks the doors and notices a weird smell at the right hand door. Obregon opens the left hand door. There are several crates of burial linens, shelves with broken pots and violet stains on most everything. Beltin opens the other door as Gonoan closes the first. There are deteriorated barrels on both walls and the floor is covered in the violet stain. Beltin steps in and almost falls through the floor as it is almost like Styrofoam. Gonoan steps into the other room and the floor surges upwards. We decide to abandon these rooms and head to the hexagonal room. We notice the humanoid shape in the floor is surrounded by circular symbols which represent the schools of magic. Sanna believes the symbols indicate a trap trigger. Beltin spider climbs around the circumference of the room. When he gets half way around, the head in the floor coughs twice and 2 shadowy creatures appear. They begin beating Beltin and draining his constitution. Natauru and Sanna each get hit as well. Gonoan gets in several good hits with some other hits by the rest of the group destroy them before they can do any more damage. Beltin moves out of the room and Pike moves towards the other door. As he does, the face coughs out 2 more wraiths. The team takes them out quickly but not before Pike takes some constitution damage. Obregon opens the door and finds a room with a table, chairs and cupboard. Pike finds a secret door in the hexagonal wall. When opened it reveals a 20’ hall with a door at the end. There is a storage room off the dining room with 20 gp in it. We head down the secret hallway. It ends in a round bedroom. We find nothing of interest. What do we do next???

All but 2 adventurers leave. Obregon finds a set of tracks and we follow. It leads us to a ladder which leads up to a trap door. Pike opens the lock and quietly looks around. He sees a humanoid shaped fire creature. Pike moves to the exit door without alerting it but it hears Gonoan. It charges and slams him. Obregon moves in and gets set afire. Obregon turns around and shoots it twice and Gonoan hits it which kills it. We search the walls while we wait for Obregon to find the tracks. Obregon discovers the tracks exit through a double door in the far corner hidden behind some crates. Gonoan moves the crates. Pike opens the door and we see a hall off to the left and right. There seems to be unnatural darkness in front of the door. As Gonoan steps out, rubbery tentacles spring out of the floor and grapples the party. We futilely attempt to escape. Both adventurers drop and the rest take more damage. Gonoan breaks free and attempts to close the door but the tentacles are in the way. He and Obregon manage to escape but Pike falls. Obregon lassoes him and Gonoan pulls him out. After a few rounds the tentacles disappear. Gonoan goes back to the door and hears someone whispering. Obregon ties a rope around Gonoan who heads down the hall and disappears, the rope comes back empty. Obregon smells the flasks hoping for something helpful but they both smell acrid. Then he heads down the hallway and falls to a couple of magic missiles. INTERLUDE: For what seems like an eternity, your universe consists of pain and nausea. Slowly your mind rebels against the idea of giving in to your suffering and agonizingly your eyes begin to focus. Your aching back arches against the restraints that hold your kneeling frame to the floor. As your throbbing head rises you see a shadowy humanoid figure peering across from you into a pool nearly oblivious to anything else. Straining you can see others that are similarly bound. Wondering what could hold the stranger’s attention your eyes strain and peer into the pool. Slowly the clouded surface clears and reveals a rag-tag band of adventurers opening a door in the side of a hill. On their right sits a massive stone gargoyle. Another statue may have stood on the left but now all that is there is a pile of stones. Pausing from his scrying the mysterious figure speaks. “It’s about time you’re awake. I didn’t drug you that deeply.” From the strangers voice you think it may be a man. When he mentions drugging you, your mind reels amid a thunderstorm of pain that rages between your ears. Apparently noticing your pain your captor pauses, leers over at you and resumes talking. “Oh yes it is quite effective, coupled with the restraints. The side effects of being drugged should keep you from casting any annoying spells while the bonds can tame the most savage barbarian. Rogues trussed up this way find it extremely hard to escape. Indeed I do believe I am quite safe from retaliation. Since you’ve already noticed it, why not peer into the pool.” Your captor replies calmly “Do you see the heroes?” He snorts, “I do believe they are trying to save you. I knew I should have been more cautious with the gargoyle. They must have seen the creature and somehow tracked it here. No matter, I’m betting they perish before you require drugging again. As your mind begins to focus you remember that these heroes aren’t just ordinary strangers. If you can believe your memory in this state, you met a couple of them earlier this week. They were the brothers Hamish. All told there were 5 brothers in the family that aspired to be adventurers. Out of politeness you humored them because it was apparent that while their heart was in the right place they lacked training and equipment. Now as a twist of fate would have it, your lives depend on their skill. Surprisingly they, your would-be saviors, make decent progress. Then disaster hits. As they enter a new room an earthen creature rises from its floor. Caught by surprise two of your rescuers fall before they know what hit them. From across the pool your captor cackles as he watches. The 3 that are left draw swords to avenge their kin. Quickly, anger turns to horror as their weapons land solidly but the beast appears to shrug them off. As the creature wades through a pair of the rescuers the one it ignored bolts toward the way out, only to find it sealed by a seamless piece of stone. Quickly he wheels about to meet the fury of the crypt’s protector. Slowly the pool’s surface grows cloudy and your captor laughs as he gathers himself. As the drug begins to wear off, a new sensation flows into old nerves. Here and there you feel discomfort as the bonds…loosen? Yes, your bonds have definitely become looser. Seemingly unaware your captor rummages around for something inside his cloak as you work your hands free. For a brief moment you see your benefactor out of the corner of your eye. A ferret with an odd kink in its back, several unusual scars and an unfocused eye sits beside a hole in the wall. Its one good eye leers with unbidden hate at your captor before taking off down the hole. Finally you’re free and your captor is still preoccupied. Perhaps with surprise it might be possible to subdue the fiend before he can react. Faced with no other choice you go for it. To your relief the others were freed also. The ferret must be very tired for all its effort. In shock your captor is startled by the coming assault. Then his form begins to waver and fade. Faintly you can hear “No, this was meant to be a simple study of ability. I won’t get my hands dirty this time. We will meet again.” We find all of our gear minus what we found on Bronwyn’s body and a lock of our hair. We are in a pentagonal room with alcoves on 4 walls and a giant eye carved into the 5th. We gear up and search the room. We find 3 secret doors. Each leads to a hallway with a door at the end. One is 25’, one 20’, and one 15’. The 20’ hall leads to a round room with a fresco of a shadowy demonic realm and a door on the opposite wall. We leave and check the 15’ hall. It leads to a trapezoidal room that slopes up with a mosaic on the wall with writing in a foreign language. We check the 25’ hall. Its room is hexagonal with what appears to be a person merged with the floor and a door on the opposite wall. Decisions, decisions…

The gargoyle attacks the gladiators, downing one and injuring another. Obregon hits it with an arrow, the gladiators flee, and Pike heads toward one of the 2 doors in this room. The gargoyle drags Gonoan onto the next set of stairs. Obregon hits it again and Pike listens at the door; hearing nothing. The gargoyle drops Gonoan and charges Obregon goring him with its horns. Obregon shoots it again and it crumbles. Pike finds no traps on the door. Obregon stabilizes the downed gladiator. He and Pike notice noise outside and looking out, see a cleric, the gladiators and a number of adventurers. Obregon heads downstairs and tells them what happened. Gonoan and the downed gladiator are brought down. The cleric said that she could not cure the insanity but that it would wear off in a couple of hours. Pike and Obregon decide to take some adventurers with them and retrieve the rest of the group. When the door to the basement was opened, there was a thick acrid smoke. Once that cleared, it was found that everyone down there was missing including Bronwyn’s body. We found a trap door that led to the sewers but no tracks indicating where they had gone. We then searched the tower and found a trapped chest with a note in it from Bronwyn mocking us and saying she had left. Treasure-12 gp, 220sp,557cp, ruby ring(500gpS)(has a magical pill in it, Heal1000gp?), short sword(2010gp),12 bottles(toiletries 2650gpS). We took some adventurers into the sewers with us, where we found some tracks. As we were searching, we were attacked by a gelatinous cube. The cube killed one of the adventurers before being slain by Obregon and Pike. Treasure-2 ceramic flasks(unbreakable, cursed), hematite gem(8gpS), 115sp, 26gp. Meanwhile, Gonoan regained his sanity and headed into the sewers to catch up. (28gp,335sp,557cp)738g,67s,112c

The bird creature listens to Bronwin and moves around the group. Gonoan gets in a good hit as it moves. It emits a black cloud which hurts and causes Gonoan, Beltin, Sanna, and Narturo to go insane. Beltin and Gonoan attempt to flee, Sanna babbles incoherently and N attacks the bird. The Bird takes down Sanna and attacks Gonoan. Bronwin attempts to fascinate Pike and Obregon but fails. Pike hits her a couple of times and she tries to hit him with a lightning bolt but he evades it completely. Everyones insanity changes each round. Gonoan attacks the bird one round and Beltin attacks Gonoan. When the bird hit Gonoan, the acid aura damage kills it. Obregon puts an arrow in Bronwin’s eye and kills her. Pike searches Bronwin and finds bracers, a ring, a locket, spell component pouch, and dagger. Obregon heals Sanna. We continue to act crazy while Pike and Obregon attempt to get out of the way. Beltin manages to beat down the rest of the insane party members(against his will) while Obregon and Pike try to go for help. Beltin achieves clarity for a moment and turns on his healing aura. This stabilizes the rest of the party. Pike enlists some gladiators to help subdue the insane party members while Obregon sends for a cleric. When Pike and Obregon return with the gladiators they find Gonoan stable and tie him up. They find Beltin babbling on the stairs and subdue him. Meanwhile, Pike hears a noise in the living room. A gargoyle appears in the door to the kitchen and grabs at Gonoan. Pike yells for help. Obregon hits it a couple of times and the gladiators grapple it. It breaks the grapple and flees with Gonoan. They chase it up the stairs where they encounter a figure that looks a lot like Bronwin. Obregon shoots it twice and determines it is just a puppet. They continue after the gargoyle and find it stripping Gonoan of his gear. Fade to black.
